Copyright Information at Colorado State University

The U.S. Copyright Act recognizes that all intellectual works (articles, books, data, pictures, architectural design, software, motion pictures, sound recordings, and so forth) are automatically covered by copyright unless it is explicitly noted to the contrary. The owner of a copyright has the exclusive right to reproduce, distribute, perform, display, or license his or her work. The owner also has the exclusive right to produce or license the production of derivatives of his or her work. Under current law, works are covered whether or not a copyright notice is attached and whether or not the work is registered.

Academic Computing and Networking Services reminds every person with an account on the University's computer systems that unauthorized use, duplication, or distribution of copyrighted material is strictly prohibited by federal law. Please respect the intellectual rights of others. Do not use your CSU computer account to reproduce, distribute, perform, display, or adapt copyrighted material unless you own the copyright or have been granted the right to use the material by the copyright holder.

Access to computer systems and networks owned or operated by Colorado State University is a privilege, and imposes upon users certain responsibilities and obligations. Access is granted subject to University policies, and local, state, and federal laws. Colorado State University has published a Computing and Networking Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). The University considers violations of these acceptable use principles or guidelines to be serious offenses. The University will take such action necessary to copy and examine any files or information resident on university systems allegedly related to unacceptable use, and to protect its network from systems and events that threaten or degrade operations. Blatant violations or repeated offenses will be referred to the appropriate University entity for discipline.
