New and Alternative Crops and Cropping Systems

Overall Program Objectives

Research Objectives

  • Screen, evaluate, develop, and integrate new/alternative crops into agricultural production and production systems and assess their economic potential in Colorado.
  • Develop linkages, partnerships, and multi-disciplinary teams with researchers at CSU and at other universities, institutions, private industry, and organizations who are conducting agronomic, marketing, processing technology, feasibility and market potential studies, and product development research on new/alternative crops that may be of value to Colorado.
  • Monitor and identify pest and disease problems in new/alternative crops for Colorado and develop measures to understand and control pest and disease problems.
  • Communicate findings of this research project to broad audiences including scientific, nonscientific, agricultural, and nonagricultural groups, agencies, private industry, service organizations, and policymakers using a diversity of technical and popular media in written, oral, and electronic forms.
