Assistant Professor Department of Bioagricultural Science and Pest Management Ruth.Hufbauer@colostate.edu |
The focus of my lab is the ecology and genetics of invasive plant species and herbivorous insects (or pathogens) used for biological control. I apply basic ecological and evolutionary theories to better understand interactions between invasive plants and their natural enemies. My approach is multidisciplinary, incorporating ideas and techniques from the fields of ecology, ecological genetics (the experimental study of short-term evolution), systematics, molecular biology, behavior, and chemistry. My work combines molecular population genetics with small-scale laboratory experiments, large-scale manipulative field experiments, and basic sampling and monitoring of natural populations.
