Our research program is primarily focused on plant responses to environmental stresses and antioxidants. The following goals are included: (1) identification and study of endogenous metabolism associated with acclimation and adaptation; (2) interpretation of gene action and metabolism in response to temperature, water and salinity stresses; (3) investigation of antioxidant free radical scavenging as protective mechanisms; (4) assessment of plant antioxidants as free radical scavengers in food and beverages and (5) development of high-recovery plant germplasm procedures.
