Future TAP Courses
Look for Summer 2008 Bulletin


The following courses and workshops reflect the TAP program.  EDCT 471 is the introductory course for incoming teachers and is a pre-requisite to the other face-to-face courses.  EDCT 486 Practicum is offered to teachers who are working with local mentors.  EDCT 494, an independent study in professional development, EDCT 472, and EDCT 473 are also open to teachers wishing to renew their credentials (approval required).  Please understand that we serve the entire state and attempt to host classes at different locations.


EDCT 471 - Orientation and Assessment of New Teachers  (2 credits)
This is the initial orientation/assessment class for new vocational teachers.  The course provides an introduction to teaching with a focus on lesson planning and delivery.
There will typically be one offering of EDCT 471 during each semester unless enrollment does not meet optimum class size.

EDCT 472 - Classroom Management (1 credit)
This course will help teachers develop day-to-day classroom management skills. Topics include:  planning for instruction, positive learning environments, performing administrative and clerical tasks, safety and liability, student management techniques, and program management.
Prereq: Admission to TAP and EDCT 471, or renewal credential.

EDCT 473 - Communication Strategies (1 credit)
This course will help teachers develop the necessary communication skills to be an effective teacher.  Topics include:  methods of communication, performing occupational advisement, facilitating leadership activities, working with other staff members and advisory committees.
Prereq:   Admission to TAP and EDCT 471, or renewal credential.

EDCT 486 V - Practicum (1 credit)
Teachers work with an assigned mentor documenting 40 hours of contact.

EDCT 494 V - Independent Study (Personal and Professional Growth - 1 credit)
This study will assist teachers in developing a professional growth plan.  Professional and occupational growth activities are required.             Prereq: Admission to TAP or renewal credential
