The Olweus Bullying Prevention is a multilevel, multi-component program designed to reduce and prevent schools’ bully/victim problems.  School staffs are largely responsible for introducing and implementing the program, and their efforts are directed towards improving peer relations and making the school a safe and pleasant place to be.

Designed for elementary, middle and junior high schools have three major components:  school-wide, classroom and individual.  The Olweus Bully Prevention Program has been shown to result in substantial reduction, by 50 percent or more, in the frequency which students report being bullied and bullying others; significant reductions in students’ reports of general antisocial behavior such as vandalism, fighting, theft, and truancy; and significant improvements in the social climate of the class as reflected in students’ reports of improved order and discipline, more positive social relationships and a more positive attitude towards schoolwork and school.

The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is considered an exemplary program by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Programs of the United States Department of Health and Human Services and by the Office of Juvenile Justice of the United States

Department of Justice.

The Interwest Equity Assistance Center is able to provide certified trainers without charge to assist schools to implement the Olweus Bullying Prevent Program at the building level.
