Student researchWelcome! The roots of our university were planted in 1870, when the institution was founded as the Agricultural College of Colorado. In 1879 our first students began their studies with President Elijah Edwards and just two faculty members. From these humble origins, Colorado State University has grown into world-class institution with a reputation for excellence.

Today, Colorado State University is ranked among the nation's top public institutions and is home to more than 24,000 students and 1,400 faculty in eight colleges and 55 academic departments. Our living alumni number over 116, 000 and include heads of corporations, Olympic gold medalists, teachers, high ranking public officials, researchers, artists and many other community leaders, educators and mentors.
