Recognizing Colorado State
In recognition of a tradition of excellence at Colorado State, here is a guide to the University's official symbols. Each was designed to unify all those who are, and who will be, associated with the University. Identification with one or all of these symbols comes from the images, feelings, and memories they invoke.
In identifying with these trademarks, the spirit of Colorado State University is perpetuated through generations of students, alumni, administrators and personnel!
University Logo
Our name says it all! Our logo communicates immediately that we are Colorado State University. The University's name identifies the institution as the first authorized college and the only land-grant institution in Colorado.
University Seal
The official University seal displays the year of the University's founding establishment, the institution's name since 1957, and the components of its land-grant mission: education, service, extension and research.
The Ram Logo
The ram logo provides a standard graphic identity for the University, whether on the front of the Lory Student Center, a sweatshirt, or painted on hardwood floor in Moby Gym.
Mascot: Ram
Before we were called the Rams, we were the Aggies. In 1946, the Aggies adopted a Rocky Mountain bighorn ram as the official mascot. The original ram was named "CAM" for Colorado A&M, and one of his descendants remains our mascot today. When the school became Colorado State University, our nickname officially changed from Aggies to Rams.
Colors: Green & Gold
Our school colors, green and gold, were chosen to reflect the institution's agricultural heritage.
