Symposium on Autism Spectrum Disorders

For the first time, Colorado State hosted a two-day symposium focused on the unique needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the higher education environment. The symposium engaged parents and teaching professionals, to help students as well as faculty and staff succeed in the classroom and on campus.

Wednesday and Thursday, March 23-24

Through a grant from the Provost's Office and the support of the Committee for Disabled Student Accessibility, Resources for Disabled Students and the Center for Community Partnerships hosted a symposium on Wednesday March 23 and 24 titled, Transition and Transformation: Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the College Environment.
The two-day event included presentations by Jane Thierfield Brown from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and Lorraine Wolf from Boston University. The keynote speaker for the event was Temple Grandin from Colorado State University.
The symposium drew more than 400 participants, including:
- CSU faculty and staff,
- K-12 staff who are interested in the topic of transition,
- Families of students on the autism spectrum (both currently enrolled in and preparing for college), and
- Other regional professionals in higher education.
