Job Description |
WHO IS ELIGIBLE
- Preferred candidates are college journalism students completing their sophomore or junior year. We will consider graduating seniors, as well.
- Applicants with previous newsroom experience have a competitive advantage.
- Self-reliance and computer literacy are required.
- Reporting interns must have access to a reliable car.
EXPECTATIONS
- Reporting interns may be placed in Metro, Features or Entertainment, depending on our needs and their interests and skills. They do general assignment stories and an occasional project.
- Copy-editing and design interns can expect evening work.
DETAILS
- Internships last 10 weeks, usually between June and August. Exact dates are arranged according to the needs of the interns and the editors.
- Internships are 40 hours per week, plus overtime when necessary.
- Our paid interns get $10/hour plus business expenses. We do not pay living expenses.
- Our for-credit interns must arrange for school credit with their counselors.

- Applicants should send a resume, no more than six examples of their best work and a cover letter that includes availability and qualifications.

The Gazette is Colorado Springs’ daily newspaper. We have a newsroom of around 140 people. We offer both paid and for-credit summer internships and for-credit-only internships during the rest of the year.
We plan to hire four reporters, a designer and a copy editor as paid interns.
Our paid Sports intern is procured through either AWSM or APSE.
