Undergraduate Admission Requirements

New First Year Students

Technical Journalism is a competitive major, therefore new first year students must meet the "competitive major requirements" for direct admission. Please visit the admissions office website for more information. New students should also indicate Technical Journalism as their intended major on the admission application.

Transfer Students

Transfer students must transfer with courses equivalent to JTC 100 Media and Society and JTC 210 Newswriting with a C grade or better in both and have at least a 2.5 transfer GPA to be directly admitted into the Technical Journalism major. For questions about transfer courses, please contact the Transfer Evaluation Office of the Registrar’s Office at (970) 491-7147 or visit www.colostate.edu/Depts/Registrar/transfer.htm.

Transferred journalism course may be re-evaluated by the Department of Journalism and Technical Communication upon request. Students should complete a Course Equivalency Re-Evaluation Form and submit a syllabus to the Department Chair. Please contact the department for further details.

Undeclared-Exploring

Students who do not meet the requirements above will be considered “undeclared-exploring” while working toward the prerequisites for admittance into the major. Students must complete JTC 100 Media and Society and JTC 210 Newswriting* with a B/C grade combination or better, and have a cumulative CSU GPA of 2.9 or higher (minimum of 12 CSU credits). Undeclared-exploring students are advised by the Center of Advising and Student Achievement (CASA) in Aylesworth Hall. To contact CASA, please call 970-491-7095 or visit casa.colostate.edu.

* All overrides for JTC 210 are done on the first day of classes. Students wishing for an override must attend one section for JTC 210 on the first day of classes and put their name on the waiting list to be eligible. Overrides are granted based on earned credits.
