The Department of Telecommunications
offers the following procedure for utilizing Relay Colorado service
from the Colorado State University campus. Relay Colorado provides
service for individuals with hearing impairment by translating
between the hearing and those utilizing Telecommunications Device
for the Deaf /Teletype (TDD/TTY).
Access
Access and quality of service level to Relay Colorado are identical to that now offered
to all University affiliates. Calls to Relay Colorado shall continue to be routed through
the same Private Branch Exchange (PBX) and transport network infrastructure utilized to
switch and transport all telephone calls from and to campus.
Procedures
Hearing impaired University students, faculty and staff (affiliates) may request Relay
Colorado translation service from campus by dialing the following toll free number,
800-659-2656. University affiliates that desire to contact a hearing impaired individual
through Relay Colorado may contact a Relay Colorado operator by dialing the following toll
free number, 800-659-3656.
Relay Colorado bills long-distance charges back to the calling telephone number;
this billing method is not compatible with telephone systems with multiple
telephone extensions, such as the University's Private Branch Exchange (PBX). Therefore,
to use Relay Colorado, University affiliates must obtain a pre-paid or long distance
calling card for the purpose of paying for long distance charges incurred when accessing
Relay Colorado.
When the call being placed is to a long distance number, the Relay Colorado operator
will request the appropriate long distance or pre-paid calling card information and
complete the call.
Faculty and staff may request a University long-distance calling card by
contacting the campus operator. University policy prohibits the issuance of a
University calling card to students, including student employees, and/or non-faculty/staff
personnel, such as non-student hourly employees. These individuals must procure
their own pre-paid or long distance calling card and may submit university-related charges
for reimbursement. As an alternative, ASCSU operates a pre-paid calling card service
available in the Lory Student Center. The Department of Telecommunications encourages all
University affiliates, especially students, to patronize this service.
