WebSim Installation

WebSim requires WebSim_front.msi for installation. To install WebSim, double click on WebSim_front.msi. The installation program will then guide you through the installation. WebSim interacts directly with Distance, therefore you will need to obtain a copy of Distance version 3.5 or 4 if you do not already have one. Distance may be downloaded for free from the Research Unit for Wildlife Population Assessment at the University of St. Andrews.

Distance 3.5 Users

Place a copy of the file D35engine.exe in the folder with WebSim. The default directory for WebSim is C:\Program Files\WebSim_front\. Alternately, the directory containing Distance may be added to the path. In that case only one copy of the Distance analysis engine needs to be on your computer. Distance 3.5 is currently the default for WebSim, but this is likely to change when Distance 4 comes into wider use.

Distance 4 Users

Place a copy of the file D4.exe in the folder with WebSim. Be sure to select Distance version 4 when running a simulation.
