The Peace Corps Master’s International Degree through the English Department at Colorado State University
A student may work toward a degree in any one of our four M.A. programs—English Education, Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, or TEFL/TESL—and combine it with the Peace Corps Masters International (PCMI) degree at Colorado State University.
As noted elsewhere in the PCMI literature, acceptance to a PCMI degree program requires application to and acceptance in both the Peace Corps and the relevant Master’s degree program. Generally, a student in the English Department M.A. and PCMI programs at CSU completes all course work (3 semesters); some courses might be chosen for relevance to the type of work or location to which the Peace Corps volunteer would be assigned. After 3 semesters at CSU, the student goes on Peace Corps assignment (27 months), then returns to CSU to complete the remaining Master’s degree requirements after finishing Peace Corps service. In the last semester at CSU, the candidate completes the final project, thesis, or portfolio, ideally incorporating Peace Corps experiences. If the M.A. program allows internship credits, then it may allow up to 4 internship credits for the Peace Corps assignment.
The Office of International Programs offers further in formation about the PCMI program.
