Denver Recycles Repeats an Old Christmas Favorite...Treecycle

Denver Recycles' annual Treecycle 2008 program will recycle thousands of Christmas trees into mulch again this holiday season. Treecycle helps Denver avoid using landfill space and paying disposal fees for a valuable, recyclable resource -- Christmas trees.

All Denver residents whose trash is collected by Denver Public Works/Solid Waste Management may participate. This year, Christmas trees will be collected during a two-week period between December 31 and January 11. Your tree collection depends on how your trash is collected.

To Treecycle, simply remove all decorations, tinsel, nails, stands and bags from your tree and set it out for collection as follows. Sorry, flocked or artificial trees cannot be recycled.

  • Trash Can and Barrel Customers: Set your tree at least 4 feet away from your trash container by 7 a.m. on your trash day during either the week of December 31 or the week of January 7. Call 3-1-1 if your tree has not been picked up by 3 p.m. on your trash day during the week of January 7.

    .
  • Dumpster Customers: Set out your tree by 7 a.m., on either Wednesday, January 2 or Monday, January 7. Place the tree just behind your property on the edge of the alley and make sure it is not next to the dumpster. Call 3-1-1 if your tree has not been collected by 3 p.m. on Friday, January 11.

Denver Recycles grinds the Christmas trees into valuable mulch, which is made available FREE to Denver residents in the spring. Last year’s Treecycle recycled more than 22,000 trees, which were reclaimed by Denver residents at last spring’s Treecycle Mulch Giveaway and Leafdrop Compost Sale. Residents may call 720-865-6810 after April 1, 2008 for more information about the 2007 Treecycle Mulch Giveaway and Leafdrop Compost Sale.

For more information about Treecycle and other Denver Recycles programs visit www.Denvergov.org/DenverRecycles or call 720-865-6810.

Other Counties:  Remember to remove all decorations, tinsel, nails, stands and bags from your tree and set it out for collection as follows. Sorry, flocked trees and artificial trees cannot be recycled. For alist of country drop off areas, visit the Colorado Recycles site.
