Brief Job Description

Provide technical writing and work as a part of a project team to develop Wyoming Vital Statistics Services (VSS) instruction manuals, one for each type of vital event. The categories of vital events are divorce, death, stillbirth, birth, and marriage. The manuals will provide training and reference information to guide VSS information system users in organizations such as hospitals or county courts that document and certify these vital events. System users are professional and clerical staff who will use the online system to process, file, and report on or certify vital events. Part of the technical writing task will be to carefully test each training exercise and descriptive passage against the online system using test cases that the intern develops. The goal of testing will be to verify that both the system and the text work precisely as described/intended.

Other Information: Supervision and Work Space: I will provide the following: training as needed; supervision, informal feedback, and formal evaluation to the college or school; online access in my home-based office for training and occasional computer use. I will not expect to provide routine computer access, office space, or desk supplies.

Benefits and Liability: The intern’s role will be that of an independent consultant, not an employee of SL Spence Consulting. Thus, the internship does not include employee status, benefits, or Workers’ Compensation Insurance coverage.

Hiring Process: I would like to interview 2-4 applicants. I'll ask the applicant to read and comment on the organization and template document I've developed for the manuals.
