Colorado State University seeks applications and nominations for the position of Accountant – Financial Reporting & Analysis, a position reporting to the Financial Reporting and Analysis Manager in the Business and Financial Services Department. Business and Financial Services exists to maintain and improve the processes which protect the financial integrity of Colorado State University, to provide periodic financial information to various users, to support University financial system users, to monitor transaction flow to assure compliance with Federal, State, and University laws, regulation, and policies, to analyze and interpret financial data as part of the overall control of University fiscal goals and concerns, and to formulate financial statements and reports in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities • Prepare annual financial statement worksheets for the University’s State reporting exhibits and financial statement workpapers • Collect, analyze, reconcile, and consolidate accounting transactions to close out the accounting month\quarter\year • Coordinate the preparation of the footnote material contained in the CSU and CSU System (CSUS) annual audited financial statements • Collect footnote information from various areas and consolidate that information into schedules for inclusion on the CSU and CSUS statements • Prepare detailed workpapers for internal and external reports • Confirm that the University’s accounting information is properly reflected in the State’s system of record • Provide support to the Bond Accountant position by facilitating the accounting, compliance, and reporting related to debt including bonds and certificates of participation • Ensure that all journal entries, workpapers, reports and work processes are thoroughly documented and that proper files are maintained in accordance with the University’s record retention policies • Annually update all manuals and work process documentation related to this position • Apply Business and Financial Services accounting quality standards
Required: • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, emphasis in Accounting or Finance • Professional experience in accounting or finance • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word and Access • Excellent written communication skills
Preferred but not required: • Experience with current University systems: Kuali Financial System, State Financial System – COFRS • Experience in Bond reporting • Experience with the various systems utilized by the University and how they interact • Strong problem solving skills • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group including executives and managers • A proven team player and individual contributor • Advanced degree or CPA certification • Reflecting departmental and institutional values, candidates are expected to have the ability to advance the Department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion
