LOCATION Camp Guernsey, established in 1939, is comprised of over 77,000 acres of maneuver land, training ranges, and support facilities utilized and managed by the Wyoming Army National Guard (WYARNG). It is situated along the North Platte River in southeastern Wyoming, approximately 90 miles southeast of Casper and 80 miles north of the state capitol of Cheyenne. The setting offers many opportunities for outdoor recreation.
RESPONSIBILITIES The incumbent will function as part of the Sustainable Range Program team to provide geospatial technical support to the Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center, including performance of duties associated with SRP GIS. Provide GIS analysis, map production, and support for the SRP and other WYARNG programs as directed. Inventory, develop, and manage SRP GIS databases. Coordinate with and utilize the Army’s SRP GIS Support Center. Create and maintain geospatial data that is compliant with the standards of the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) and Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE). Meet with military and other personnel to discuss mapping and database needs. Operate and maintain GIS system hardware, software and peripherals. Collect field data as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BS/BA degree in geography or natural resources, or equivalent (4 years) experience working with GIS and geospatial data. Ability to work outdoors in variable terrain and weather conditions. Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Developed skills in data collection, use of Global Positioning Systems hardware, GIS database development, and metadata development. RESPONSIBILITIES The person in this position will provide technical expertise and general assistance to the Air Force (AF) Program Manager(s) in managing the installation Air Quality Compliance Program, as well as the overall AF Environmental Program within the context and support of the AF Environmental Management System and Air Program Information Management System. Summary of All Positions:
The Colorado Natural Heritage Program at Colorado State University seeks experienced ecology and botany field technicians for summer field work on several vegetation inventory projects. The projects are located at the Niobrara National Scenic River and Missouri National Recreation River in north central Nebraska, and The Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area in south central Montana and north central Wyoming. The work entails vegetation sampling and all positions require field botany or field ecology skills. Knowledge of plant taxonomy and species identification required. Experience identifying flora of the area is preferred. A crew lead position is available to suitably qualified candidates.
Successful applicants will work in groups of two to sample vegetation communities in support of these vegetation inventory and map accuracy assessment projects. Field technicians will be based in housing near the project site and work will entail a combination of daytrips and multi-day backpack, canoe, or car camping trips. Crews will navigate daily to randomly selected sites to establish plot locations and document plant community characteristics. Many sample locations will be in remote areas of the park.
Duties 1. Work with a partner to use GPS to navigate to plot locations and collect data on species and plant communities present. Requires the ability to reliably identify plants and plant communities of the project area, identify dominant species and community structure, and document presence of exotic or rare species, 2. Reliably locate field plots, complete field forms, operate and maintain GPS units, digital cameras, and other field equipment, and effectively manage collected data, 3. Enter and maintain data in electronic formats (databases, spreadsheets, GP GIS), 4. Thoroughly document all fieldwork using field notebooks, survey forms, maps, GPS, and digital cameras.
Qualifications: A degree in botany or ecology, natural resources, range management, forestry, or related field, or 3 years of equivalent field experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates with previous field experience, and experience with the regional flora of the project area.
1. Knowledge of dichotomous botanical keys and field guides, and the major angiosperm plant families; 2. Willingness to travel extensively during field season, work unusual schedules (up to 10 consecutive days), backpack, car camp, and live for an extended period in remote areas; 3. Good physical condition to enable working long hours in the field, traveling off-trail in rough terrain, and working through inclement weather; 4. Experience with aerial photograph and topographic map interpretation; 5. Careful attention to data; 6. Comfort and familiarity with the use of computers; 7. RESPONSIBILITIES These positions will assist the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) staff with the sustainment of realistic training land conditions and the support of personnel, vehicles, and mission requirements for units at the installation. As a member of the LRAM team, field staff will support the overall training mission, enhance the safe use of training areas, sustain the overall land condition, improve off-road access to training areas, increase the net use of training areas, improve operational and tactical mobility, and reduce the impacts of soil erosion on training lands.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A BS/BA in applied biological sciences, agriculture, restoration ecology, natural resources management, or related discipline appropriate to the position is required. A combination of an equivalent level of education and experience will also be considered. This position requires at least six continuous months of specialized experience in land rehabilitation and land management that includes experience in LRAM programs or programs similar to LRAM, use of Global Position Systems (GPS), application of best management practices for soil conservation and erosion control, and working successfully with others as well as independently. Applicants must demonstrate experience operating and maintaining mechanized equipment including tractors, seed drills, hydroseeds, and/or straw mulchers. Summary of Positions: The Colorado Natural Heritage Program has temporary field technician positions available. Research Associates are needed to survey for mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles, and invertebrates. The field technician should expect to camp in developed and/or undeveloped sites. Occasional nights in motels or rented houses within project areas may also be provided. Specific study sites will be in various locations throughout the state. These positions will require extensive travel and long days in the field. These positions may involve properly collecting and preparing specimens for identification when appropriate. The employment dates for these positions will be approximately from May 1, 2013 through October 31, 2013 and will vary depending upon project.
Minimum Qualifications: • B.S. degree in zoology, biology, natural resources, ecology, or related field experience (at least 2 years of field surveys). • Ability to use a dichotomous key to identify animal species required, • Ability to navigate in remote, areas using topographic maps, compass, and GPS required, • Experience collecting quantitative and qualitative field data in remote settings required, • Ability and willingness to navigate using 4WD vehicles and hike off-trail in remote areas over rugged terrain for much of the field season required, and • Ability to work long hours in the field is required.

The position will be involved in in vitro and in vivo animal models to evaluate specific characteristics of the nontuberculosis drug treatment in a BSL-3 environment as: efficacy against a range of clinical isolates (drug susceptible and resistant) in mice, guinea pigs and rabbits.
• Planner and organizer of the standard in vivo screening models (MTD model, GKO model, standard model). • Prepare drug formulations for experiments and communicate with other members of the group involved in treatment of mice/guinea pigs, assisting in the care of mice, guinea pigs and rabbits observation of the animals in BSL-3 labs at Painter and IDRC. • In vivo drug efficacy experiments, including: - Dissection of animals, harvest organs, plate organ homogenates - count bacterial colonies on plates. • Prepare animal tissues for CFU, flow cytometry and cell sorting staining of different cellular phenotypes and reading samples on the LSR II flow cytometer and FACS Aria III Cell Sorter. • Prepare flow cytometry reagents. • RT-PCR preparation on mice, guinea pigs and rabbits • Data input and calculation
General Lab Responsibilities:
• Ordering supplies • Being involved in the ordering of small lab equipment and specialized lab supplies, contact companies, request quotes. • Being responsible for maintenance of a piece of equipment/supply from the lab in Microbiology, Painter and/or IDRC. • Being part of the maintenance schedule at IDRC, and being involved in some day to day chores around the lab.
Minimum Qualification: Bachelor of Science degree
Preferred Experience: Experience with animal modeling and BSL-3 is preferred.

The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University seeks to fill a professional research position for its collaborative research as a Cooperative Institute with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) Meteorological Development Laboratory (MDL) Decision Assistance Branch in Silver Spring, MD. (Office will be in Silver Spring, MD). The primary goal in the research partnership between the Decision Assistance Branch at the NWS/MDL and CIRA during the past few years has focused on the NWS’s role in improving aviation-centered guidance and decision support as well as providing a framework to foster innovation and science sharing within the NWS and to streamline the transition from research to operations. In particular, the partnership has resulted in streamlining and transitioning NCAR’s AutoNowcaster (ANC) system to the NWS and creation of tools and techniques for NWS forecasters to not only see ANC output but provide valuable input into the system that allows the forecasters to be “over the loop”. CIRA has and will continue to provide expertise in a wide range of technical areas, including but not limited to: portal frameworks, collaboration toolsets, configuration management, hardware and software configuration and tuning, software design and development, and application of new technologies and languages which are aligned with other NWS projects such as AWIPS II. The successful candidate will participate in a number of activities including a) updating and modifying ANC to perform under various climate regimes and forecast locations; b) providing recommendations on ways to further streamline the design of ANC; and c) participating in the development and enhancement of a Virtual Laboratory for the NWS which includes a portal using LifeRay’s open source java portal framework.
