Requirements: Qualifications: The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition seeks applications throughout the year from individuals who are interested in obtaining a temporary (i.e., time-limited) research position within the department. Applicants applying for this position must hold a minimum of a Bachelors degree in an appropriate discipline. For basic science research positions, experience with basic biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell culture techniques preferred. Responsibilities: This position includes interaction with the Principal Investigator as well as other research assistants. The individual will be part of a team of researchers completing a federally funded research project and will have a broad range of responsibilities which may include but are not limited to:

1. General lab organization and ordering of supplies.
2. Management of records associated with compliance with Human or Animal Institutional Review Board protocols and guidelines.
3. Recruitment, screening, and testing of human volunteers ranging from 18-95 years of age.
4. Exercise testing and training of human volunteers.
5. Data collection and subsequent analysis using custom computer programs.
6. Data entry and management of electronic data records.
7. Statistical analysis.
8. Training other personnel in data collection and analysis.
9. Supervision of the activities of undergraduate and graduate student research assistants.
10. Physiological experiments with animals.
11. Handling of laboratory animals and tissue/blood samples.
12. Participate in professional development opportunities as appropriate.
13. Write reports, check documentation, maintain inventory, maintain critical data, insure compliance with grant criteria, supervise administrative support staff.

Title: Research Scientist I - Electron Microscopy and Imaging Specialist

Requirements: The position of Electron Microscopist and Imaging Specialist (EMIS) is a full-time, special, 12 month Research Scientist/Scholar I administrative professional position. The EMIS will have responsibilities in the CSU Chemistry Department’s Central Instrument Facility (CIF) Imaging and X-ray Spectroscopy laboratories; see the CIF website at http://cif.colostate.edu for more information. The mission of these laboratories is to provide state-of-the-art research services in support of our Materials Chemistry programs. Responsibilities will include providing advanced research services and training for, and routine maintenance of, electron microscopy (EM) methods and instruments including ultra-high resolution transmission EM (HR-TEM), scanning transmission EM (STEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), electron diffraction (ED) and electron-beam lithography (EBEAM) with our new JEOL JEM-2100F HR-TEM, as well as our extant JSM-6500F SEM and Hitachi S-2700 SEM. The CIF laboratories are equipped with many other tools and instruments supporting its research support mission to chemistry-affiliated projects on campus and in the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a dedicated group of six other research scientists and support personnel responsible for instruments and equipment in five other labs that are involved in all aspects of the chemical and physical characterization of compounds, bulk materials, thin films and surfaces. These include ultra-high vacuum systems, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) in myriad forms, physical property measurements (PPMS and SQUID-MPMS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and other probe-based imaging techniques, optical spectroscopy (IR, UV-Vis-NIR, VASE), thermal analysis (DSC, TGA), mass spectrometry (GCMS, LCMS, FTMS) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR and EPR).

All instruments in the CIF are available for use by the successful candidate, who will be expected to collaborate with colleagues, other staff scientists, faculty and other principal investigators to advance CSU’s primary research, education and service mission. As mentioned previously, EMIS responsibilities will include routine maintenance of the HR-TEM/STEM and other assigned equipment and the training of new users, as well as user-manual preparation and providing data for a various projects. Collaborations with senior investigators is expected. Contributions to shared instrument proposals will also be expected. Other instruments may be assigned as the need or opportunity arises and will be determined by the CIF Director.

The successful EMIS candidate must have a Ph.D. in a chemistry-related discipline, and some expertise with hard materials will be considered advantageous. Hands-on familiarity with UHV, HR-TEM, STEM and other X-ray imaging and spectroscopy techniques is required. Familiarity with EELS, lithography, and focused ion-beam milling will be considered advantageous. Experience with JEOL Instrumentation in particular is also an advantage. The ability to write and communicate clearly, as well as to think and work independently will be vital. Independent and collaborative research is encouraged.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach
• Represent department at undergraduate recruitment events/opportunities and perform duties as assigned. This will involve working occasional nights and weekends.
• Travel within Colorado and nationally to current strategic areas of interest to the department for recruitment of undergraduate students and marketing of the CM program.
• Increase enrollment and retention of students from underrepresented groups in the CM major.
• Develop strategies to strengthen partnerships with high schools that serve diverse populations.
• Marketing and coordinating college-wide events (such as Ram Welcome, CM Open House) and external events (such as Colorado Construction Career Days) with prospective students and their families in order for them to make an informed decision regarding a major in construction management.
• Work with department’s recruitment and retention committee to plan and execute outreach events; develop and oversee recruitment budget. Compile data and feedback to assess effectiveness and make recommendations to the committee for future event and visit initiatives.
• Liaise with various offices across the college and university to successfully coordinate activities.
• Design and manage print, web-based and social media components and materials related to recruitment events. This may include such things as: web pages, online registration forms, surveys, event videos, event photography, presentations, etc.
• Lead program tours and advise potential Construction Management students for admission to the major and university.
• Develop and present workshops to CM students, faculty, staff, and industry, as well as prospective student visit days.
• Support the department with the development and maintenance of relationships with partner academic institutions.

Advising
• Advise current and prospective students on academic requirements, scheduling classes, and administrative procedures related to academics.
• Advise, prepare and process forms including graduation contracts, CM applications, overrides, exceptions, appeals, study abroad, and military, athletic and other advising related issues.
• Provide guidance for students with disabilities as well as students with academic issues.
• Act as an advocate for students with extenuating circumstances.
• Collaborate with Internship Coordinator to help students make academic and career plans.

Requirements: Several Teaching Aide positions are available in the Professional Veterinary Medical program at Colorado State University which will support the program’s Foundations in Clinical Practices course.

A bachelor’s degree in a biomedical science area OR the substitution of an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology (or its equivalent) with five to ten years of veterinary clinical experience OR the substitution of at least ten years of veterinary technician on-the-job training in a certified clinic is required. The successful applicants must have at least one semester of experience teaching as a clinical educator in veterinary medicine and demonstrate skill in physical exam techniques regarding small animals. Veterinary technicians with at least five to ten years of experience working in high quality veterinary practices (such as AAHA certified practices) that have demonstrated ability as good communicators and clinical instructors will be given preference.

The individuals will be required to assist in the instruction and evaluation of veterinary students in the performance of physical, ophthalmologic, dermatologic, cardiologic, orthopedic and neurologic exams of small animals. They must help to evaluate these student exams in a clinical setting. They are expected to implement the guidelines set in the student task booklet and the student syllabus.

All positions are temporary and are not benefit eligible. Positions are for one semester with the potential of continuing the following semester. Hours worked are approximately 2-6 hours per week depending on the employee’s schedule as well as the need for clinical educators for the courses for that semester. The course runs approximately 8-9 weeks per semester and there is a 2-3 hour orientation at the beginning of each semester as well as a one hour introduction class period that aides are required to attend. Hours preparing outside of the class environment will be paid. Hourly wage for these positions is $15/hour and no benefits.
