Requirements: Qualifications: The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition seeks applications throughout the year from individuals who are interested in obtaining a temporary (i.e., time-limited) research position within the department. For basic science research positions, experience with basic biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell culture techniques preferred. Responsibilities: This position includes interaction with the Principal Investigator as well as other research assistants. 2. Management of records associated with compliance with Human or Animal Institutional Review Board protocols and guidelines.
3. Recruitment, screening, and testing of human volunteers ranging from 18-95 years of age.
4. Exercise testing and training of human volunteers.
5. Data collection and subsequent analysis using custom computer programs.
6. Data entry and management of electronic data records.
7. Statistical analysis.
8. Training other personnel in data collection and analysis.
9. Supervision of the activities of undergraduate and graduate student research assistants.
10. Physiological experiments with animals.
11. Handling of laboratory animals and tissue/blood samples.
12. Participate in professional development opportunities as appropriate.

Requirements: The Boulder branch of the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University seeks to fill a professional scientific position for its collaborative research as a Cooperative Institute with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) Global Systems Division (GSD), in Boulder, Colorado (office will be in Boulder).

Background:
The Forecast Applications Branch (FAB) of the Global Systems Division (GSD) of the Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) is engaged in cutting-edge research and development aimed at improved data assimilation, numerical modeling, and ensemble forecasting methods for the prediction of high impact weather events on fine time and spatial scales. FAB seeks a full-time employee with experience in Observing System Experiments (OSE) and preferably Observing Systems Simulation Experiments (OSSE) with some background in adaptive observations and a desire to become a member of a dynamic research team. The individual in this position will conduct OSSE and related experiments to assess the value of (a) observations made from Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and other platforms including satellites, and (b) advanced observing techniques such as targeted observations.

Responsibilities:
The individual in this position will contribute to achieving GSD’s research and development objectives in a number of areas, including:
• Carry out OSSE experiments related to observations made from UAS and other platforms
• Support OSSE-related research as to the generation of synthetic observations, calibration, and other components
• Conduct Research and development related to adaptive observation schemes
• Contribution to the assessment of analysis, forecast, and observational errors, including forecast error covariances as estimated from a set of ensemble forecasts
• Contribute to the preparation of proposals and project reports as needed
• Coordinate with internal and external collaborators (NOAA OSSE testbed, AOML, NCEP, NASA and JCSDA)
• Participate in other data assimilation and modeling projects as needed

Qualifications:
Required qualifications include a M.S. or a Ph.D. degree in Meteorology, Applied Mathematics, or related fields, preferably with specialization in data assimilation, numerical forecasting, in-situ and remotely sensed data, or statistical post-processing. Note: Position title of Research Scientist I will apply to an applicant with a PhD; otherwise, title of Research Associate III will apply. Desired technical proficiencies include the following:
• Knowledge and experience with probability and statistics
• Extensive experience in NWP
• Knowledge of and experience with programming languages (Fortran-90 preferred) and scripting
• Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems, display tools, and MPI is a plus
Other desired qualifications include:
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a development team
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written skills) with researchers and other staff members

Tour of Duty: Full-time (includes benefits) One year initial term with possible extension depending on performance and project funding. The position is funded entirely from federal sources under an NPS Cooperative Agreement.

Duties:
The National Park Service (NPS), Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division (NSNSD) is part of the Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate (NRSS), a Washington, D.C. based office, located in Fort Collins, Colorado. The NSNSD assists park units in monitoring and managing acoustical environments. This position will assist NSNSD staff in collecting and analyzing acoustical data needed to support park management. Data collection will require extended field projects at park units; data analysis will require intensive analytical work. Applicants must be adaptable, available for extensive travel, capable of working in wilderness, and possess a keen interest in engineering or scientific analysis.

The incumbent’s primary duties include:

Fieldwork:
1. Collect acoustical and meteorological data at remote field sites. Manage logistical preparations; identify suitable locations for placing equipment; set up, calibrate, and maintain equipment; maintain detailed field observation logs; diagnose equipment failures and effect repairs; recover and refurbish equipment; retrieve data and ensure secure archiving.

Data Processing:
1. Process acoustical data to identify sound sources and extract quantitative measures relevant to park unit management issues.
2. Write reports summarizing the results of acoustic monitoring projects, and conduct verbal presentations to park staff and lay audiences.

The incumbent’s additional responsibilities may include:
1. Data entry and other data formatting as needed to populate acoustics databases.
2. Prepare graphical displays of data and results for technical and lay audiences.
3. Provide technical assistance to park staff and other personnel associated with the Natural Sounds Program.
4. Contribute to meetings with park staff: determine the scope of work, identify local priorities, designate acoustical zones that merit monitoring effort, provide updates on progress, and provide summaries at the end of a project.
5. Collaborate with CSU faculty, staff, and students on data analysis and research.
6. Other duties as assigned by project managers.

Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree (preferably in natural science, engineering, or natural resources).
2. Available for extensive travel (up to three weeks per month in summer).
3. Computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office software.
4. Ability to hike while carrying a backpack (up to 25 kg) through rough terrain.
5. Field experience in physical or biological sciences.

Desired Attributes:
1. Experience or education in acoustics; hearing ability to detect and identify sound sources in quiet natural areas.
2. Experience with specialized software (Raven, Song Scope, Ishmael, MATLAB, XBAT, R, etc.).
3. Experience using and maintaining scientific instruments or electronics in a field setting.
4. Experience diagnosing and/or repairing equipment failures.
5. Experience practicing and/or promoting safety in the workplace.
6. Experience with GIS, computer programming, and/or modeling.
7. Experience collaborating with CSU faculty, staff, and students on data analysis and research.

Supervisory Controls:
The position reports to the CSU Principal Investigator, working closely with the NPS Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division manager and staff.

All positions require field botany or ecology skills. Knowledge of plant taxonomy and species identification required. Preferred qualifications include experience in wetland ecology, local flora, and familiarity performing field work for long days (10+ hours).

Fieldwork will take place in randomly selected wetlands in urban areas, agricultural areas, and more remote natural areas as part of two wetland condition assessment projects in the lower South Platte River Basin. Standard duties will involve driving and hiking to field sites; in-field plant identification, in-office plant identification with a microscope; detailed completion of field survey forms, landowner interaction; and extensive collection of vegetation, soil, wildlife habitat, and environmental data. Data will be collected using both rapid assessment protocols and more in-depth vegetation surveys.

Department: One of five academic units in the College of Business, the Department of Accounting has a strong record of teaching and research accomplishments, and expects faculty members to be active in the academic and professional community. Specific study sites will be in various locations throughout the state. These positions will require extensive travel and long days in the field. Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to navigate in remote, areas using topographic maps, compass, and GPS required,
• Experience collecting quantitative and qualitative field data in remote settings required,
• Ability and willingness to navigate using 4WD vehicles and hike off-trail in remote areas over rugged terrain for much of the field season required, and
• Ability to work long hours in the field is required.

Likely duties may include participating on the Composition Committee, supporting the GTA Professional Development program, developing and/or selecting curricular materials, participating in university-wide retention efforts, assisting with ESL course development, assisting in multimodal composition instruction and delivery, and others as needed. Successful applicants will be expected to meet departmental objectives for the courses they teach. In composition, instructors might teach CO130 (Academic Writing), CO150 (College Composition), CO300 (Writing Arguments), CO301 (Writing in the Disciplines), or CO302 (Writing Online). Alternative teaching assignments are based on department need and the instructor’s background.

Salary: This position is a special assignment for the academic year 2013-14. The salary for the position will be the successful applicant’s 2012-13 100% salary rate, plus any increase from a salary exercise (if the University has one), plus an administrative stipend of $2500 per academic year.

General Information: The English department at CSU has a tenure-track faculty of 35, approximately 500 undergraduate majors, and more than 140 graduate students. The University Composition Program houses five programs which serve the University at large: the First-Year Composition Program (FYC), the Upper-Division Composition Program (UDC), the University Writing Center, the gtPathways Writing Program (GTP), and the Composition Placement Program. Each of these programs is unified by our faculty commitment to teaching writing as a rhetorical act of inquiry and learning, ensuring that our programs are consistent with national standards for best practice, and maintaining a clear and reliable understanding of CSU students’ writing backgrounds and needs. The department appoints more than 35 graduate teaching assistants who teach creative and expository writing and English as a second language. Undergraduate concentrations in creative writing, English education, language, literature, and writing lead to a B.A. in English. Master of Arts degrees are offered in creative nonfiction, English education, literature, rhetoric and composition, and TESL/TEFL. A Master of Fine Arts is offered in creative writing.  written reports of classroom observations,

 three student papers reflecting a range of grades (one paper an “A,” one a “B,” and one below a “B”) in response to a single assignment. These papers should include your marginal and end comments; the English department considers responding to student writing central to good teaching, and thus we review these comments as indications of pedagogical effectiveness. Please also include a narrative describing the assignment and grading criteria (up to one page). Explain how the assignment fits into the overall picture of the course;
• three recent (written in the last 3-5 years) letters of reference that speak to teaching and writing program administration experience and/or promise;
• a street address, phone number, and email address where you can be reached during both the school year and the summer.
