The position will be involved in in vitro and in vivo animal models to evaluate specific characteristics of the nontuberculosis drug treatment in a BSL-3 environment as: efficacy against a range of clinical isolates (drug susceptible and resistant) in mice, guinea pigs and rabbits.
• Planner and organizer of the standard in vivo screening models (MTD model, GKO model, standard model). • Prepare drug formulations for experiments and communicate with other members of the group involved in treatment of mice/guinea pigs, assisting in the care of mice, guinea pigs and rabbits observation of the animals in BSL-3 labs at Painter and IDRC. • In vivo drug efficacy experiments, including: - Dissection of animals, harvest organs, plate organ homogenates - count bacterial colonies on plates. • Prepare animal tissues for CFU, flow cytometry and cell sorting staining of different cellular phenotypes and reading samples on the LSR II flow cytometer and FACS Aria III Cell Sorter. • Prepare flow cytometry reagents. • RT-PCR preparation on mice, guinea pigs and rabbits • Data input and calculation
General Lab Responsibilities:
• Ordering supplies • Being involved in the ordering of small lab equipment and specialized lab supplies, contact companies, request quotes. • Being responsible for maintenance of a piece of equipment/supply from the lab in Microbiology, Painter and/or IDRC. • Being part of the maintenance schedule at IDRC, and being involved in some day to day chores around the lab.
Minimum Qualification: Bachelor of Science degree
Preferred Experience: Experience with animal modeling and BSL-3 is preferred.
