Title: CASA Scholarship Coordinator

Requirements: The Center for Advising and Student Achievement (CASA) empowers students to explore and engage in their educational and personal purpose, within an inclusive community that supports learning and graduation. This mission is accomplished with Orientation and Transition Programs, Key Learning Communities, Outreach and Support, Opportunity Scholar Programs, Undeclared Student Advising, and Health Profession Advising.

The Opportunity Scholar Program Coordinator is a full time position that oversees the programming, mentoring, and support for scholarship recipients including Reisher and Puksta scholars, funded by private foundations, in implementing academic, career, leadership, and service goals and promoting student retention and graduation.

Responsibilities:
• Mentoring Scholars:
Serve as the primary mentor for scholarship recipients to promote student’s success by meeting with students on a regular basis to assist them in achieving their goals. Conduct once a semester academic progress discussion and provide intentional outreach to students in academic difficulty.
• Program/Activity Planning:
Coordinate regular group meetings, programs, and retreats that build a community amongst the scholars, expose scholars to campus and community resources and opportunities, and meet the scholarship foundation requirements.
• Student Supervision:
Supervise a student staff who will assist in programming, regular communication to scholars, and building community.
• Tracking/Assessment:
Maintain accurate and detailed contact notes, track student performance, and develop reports on the scholar’s academic success and graduation
• Scholarship Recruitment:
Work with Admissions, Student Financial Services, other CSU departments, junior or community college staff, and other entities, to help promote the program and recruit future scholars. Organize the scholar selection process.
• Partnership Coordination:
Work with scholarship foundations in sharing campus activities and student scholar progress, and with campus and community departments and individuals to generate support and opportunities for scholars.
• Ability to work some evenings and weekends
• Ability to provide or arrange transportation

Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree in student affairs in higher education, or related field completed by May 30, 2013, and
• One year full-time experience in a higher education setting working with students in providing one-on-one and group interactions to assist in their academic success and graduation

OR

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, education or related field, and
• Three years full-time experience in a higher education setting working with students in providing one-on-one and group interactions to assist in their academic success and graduation

Desired Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience working with college students from underrepresented and diverse backgrounds
• Comfort and effectiveness in conducting active outreach to individual students
• Demonstrated understanding of student development and awareness of student transition issues
• Understanding of contemporary high school and college students
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate student development in academic, personal, leadership, and service dimensions, and to develop communities of students
• Demonstrated ability to organize and implement programs
• Demonstrated ability to build external connections with scholarship foundations and community colleges
• Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative efforts across campus
• Strong work ethic
• Demonstrated commitment to a staff team
• Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, presentation, writing and technical/computer
• Self‐motivated team player with demonstrated ability to multi‐task within a fast paced work environment
