Colorado State University has a dynamic opportunity for Barrier Maintenance Technicians (BMTs) to join the Infectious Disease Research Center (IDRC). The IDRC, nestled in the scenic foothills of Fort Collins, provides the University with hi-tech facilities and equipment for researching emerging infectious diseases and methods to protect the United States from potential bio-agents. IDRC researchers investigate and develop new treatments and vaccines to protect against these agents. A unique aspect of the IDRC is that there is a business incubator embedded within the center that houses multiple private start-up companies transitioning discoveries to products. The IDRC at Colorado State University is a dynamic, rapidly growing complex of buildings designed and operated at a truly state-of-the-art level.

The position provides custodial support for the IDRC facility on the CSU Foothills Campus. Activities include custodial support for the BSL3 and BLS2 laboratories and the general complex areas, interior and exterior maintenance. The position reports to the Building Manager of the IDRC, CSU Foothills Campus.

Duties to include, but are not limited to:
1. Perform custodial duties that includes cleaning and sanitization to all areas of the IDRC facility. This includes the BSL3 biocontainment laboratories, BL2 laboratories and the general building areas and building perimeters.
2. Ensure that supplies and inventory are in the biocontainment barriers, restrooms, and general areas
3. Successfully be part of a team that includes quality circles principles as the standard.
4. Work with their supervisor and staff in troubleshooting basic problems such as equipment failure.
5. Be professional in communications and in daily work with researchers, IDRC staff and management.
6. Take appropriate trainings and train other workers as required.
7. Respond to general building management facility operations emergent facility issues as applicable or necessary.

Requirements include:
1. Be able to move freely, carry up to and or push 50 pounds and be capable of wearing respiratory protection.
2. Be able to work freely inside Laboratories including BSL3 Biocontainment spaces for long periods of time which may require use of personal protective equipment such as respiratory protection and personal protective equipment including the ability to emergently decontaminate if necessary.
3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and ability to successfully be part of a team.
4. Adherence to applicable CSU, state and federal safety/biosafety regulations and guidelines.
5. Maintain regulatory status approvals as applicable for area of work, such as CDC SRA, DOJ select agent, and Tier 1 approvals.
6. Pass and maintain personal suitability assessment/requirements for Tier 1 per CDC regulations.

Additional Requirements:
The successful candidate for this position must pass a Department of Justice background check and CDC Select Agent Clearance. This position will receive extensive training in biosafety and biosecurity, and must maintain appropriate behavioral standards consistent with the required level of biosafety and biosecurity according to the CDC Select Agent and Tier 1 Regulations (42 CFR part 73} requirements. This position must maintain applicable regulatory status approvals, such as Select Agent Approval (SRA) , Tier 1 approvals, and must pass and maintain Tier 1 personal suitability assessment per CDC regulations. This position may need to participate in special immunization programs. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative professional position.
