Requirements: POSITION
An Environmental Compliance Stormwater Specialist (Research Associate III Special) position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is located at Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) in California.

ORGANIZATION
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DOD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

LOCATION
VAFB is a 100,000-acre installation nestled in the Santa Maria Valley, 9.5 miles north of Lompoc and 70 miles north of Santa Barbara on the central coast of California. The base, with its 45 miles of scenic coastline, is home to 53 species of mammals, 315 species of birds, 17 species of reptiles, 10 amphibian species, and more than 850 plant species. Located in the heart of California’s central coast, the area boasts a mild climate supporting abundant wineries, world-class golf courses, hiking and biking.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will function as a technical specialist supporting the management of the installation’s Clean Water Act compliance at VAFB. Specific areas of responsibility include:
• Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan compliance
• Ambient Water Program compliance
• Clean Water Act Program management within the context of the Air Force environmental management system and as implemented by the State of California and local jurisdictions

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, water sampling, community outreach, training, technical study, compliance reporting, data entry support, permit drafting and/or review, and compliance development planning and scheduling.

QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are sought:
• BS/BA degree in environmental science, engineering or related field and five or more years of experience in Clean Water Act Programs (stormwater management, water quality protection, flood protection and sustainability)
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with stormwater management and pollution prevention regulations (State of California, Air Force, and federal regulations)
• Field experience with water sampling and construction stormwater oversight
• Permit review and writing
• Experience with community outreach and training
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license
• Competency in Microsoft Office programs is necessary
• Experience in ArcMap GIS is a plus

The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S. employment eligibility. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

SALARY
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Range: $48,000 – $53,000. Continuation of the position is dependent on the receipt of funding from the sponsor for stormwater compliance efforts at VAFB.
