Networking Standards for Colorado State University

NETWORKING STANDARDS

  1. Minimum of switched 10/100 autosensing to the desktop*.
  2. Minimum standard for every office is at least two data jacks.

*CSU has standardized on managed Ethernet switches from Hewlett Packard and Cisco Systems. Switches and hubs should not be plugged in to wall jacks in offices or similar locations. Doing so can result in negatively impacting a building's entire network..

For information regarding standards related to telecommunications closets on campus please refer to section I.4 "Intermediate Distribution Frame" at:
http://www.colostate.edu/depts/telecommunications/Standards/TelecomunicationStandardsMain.html

To review the telecommunications closets access agreement please refer to

The CSU wireless network is available to CSU faculty, staff and students. The campus wireless network requires authentication and encryption, which may be achieved by using CSU’s VPN client or the Secure Access SSL gateway.

Restricted guest wireless is also available - see:
http://www.acns.colostate.edu/?page=vlan_guests

Departments interested in installing wireless access points should contact ACNS Networking Services before making any purchases.
