Planning to purchase a new computer for the office? Wondering what software packages your department should buy? The University sets standards that result in more effective use of computers through improved communication and information sharing among departments, labs, and central administration. The standards are revised semiannually and distributed to the campus on the ACNS web site.

The standards were developed balancing the conflicting factors of a desire for the campus to advance its overall information technology capabilities and a need to preserve existing investments in information technology. While the standards are not mandatory, adhering to them will ensure interoperability to the extent that others also adhere to these standards. Standard software is supported, and central training is provided for "standard" software.

These standards apply to hardware and software used for University work. Your personal computing needs may vary.

The University Technology Committee (UTC) committee and representatives from Information Systems and Sponsored Programs participated in the development of the standards for the University.
