Configuration and Support

Citrix allow users to perform application server computing. That is, an application installed on a server can be accessed and run from a client.

The Citrix server component is called MetaFrame. Currently, Citrix MetaFrame supports Windows NT 4.0, Terminal Server Edition and Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server; Citrix® WinFrame® supports Windows NT 3.51. Citrix also provides Citrix MetaFrame for the SolarisTM operating environment, AIX and HP-UX operating systems.

A Citrix ICA client is the software component that executes on the client device. It allows the user to establish a Citrix ICA session with a Citrix MetaFrameTM server. This session enables the user to access server-based applications that appear to run locally on the client machine but execute on the server.

Citrix ICA stands for Citrix® Independent Computing Architecture. It is the "thin" protocol that enables Citrix to separate screen updates and user input processing from the rest of the application's logic. When using a Citrix ICA Client, all application logic executes on the server and only screen updates, mouse movements and keystrokes are transmitted via the Citrix ICA session.

Native Citrix ICA Clients are available for Windows PCs, Macintosh®, UNIX, Windows Based Terminals (WBTs) and a range of Windows CE and EPOC-based hand-held devices.
