Founded in 1842, this is the oldest learned society in the U.S.  Serious scholars of the ancient Middle East, especially, belong to this society, but East Asianists dominate in the regional Western Branch, which has excellent annual meetings in the West, often in Colorado.
• Association for Asian Studies You should consider being a member! This is the primary professional association for Asian Studies; for students, scholars, and others.
