Membership
Membership in Phi Beta Kappa is bestowed by Delta of Colorado; one cannot apply for membership in Phi Beta Kappa. Membership is generally limited to the top 10% of the graduating class. Juniors and seniors are screened to be certain that they meet the requirements for membership, including: |
|
- enrollment in an appropriate liberal arts and sciences major (no applied majors are eligible)
- at least 75% of all course work or 90 hours in approved liberal arts and sciences courses
- completion of 100 semester hours (150 quarter hours), at least 50 (75) of which must have been at Colorado State University. Transfer students must also meet this requirement. Transfer students must also have a minimum of a 3.0 transfer GPA.
- minimum course requirements:
- in mathematics: any three credit University mathematics course except M133
- in foreign language: nine or ten semester credits of University courses in a single foreign language (or transcript credit by placement)
- an appropriate minimum GPA
Eligible students will receive invitations to join Phi Beta Kappa in the spring (typically in March). The invitation will be mailed to the address the student has on file with the university. Invitations are sent only once a year; both May and December graduates attend the same initiation ceremony in April.
Colorado State University students interested in Phi Beta Kappa are encouraged to contact the President for more details.
