Phi Beta Kappa

Phi Beta KappaColorado State University Phi Beta Kappa - Delta of Colorado at Colorado State University

Why Join?

As an outstanding student, you may be invited to join several honor societies. Why should you choose to join Phi Beta Kappa?

Phi Beta Kappa is. . .

  • the oldest, most well-known, and most prestigious of all undergraduate honor societies
  • recognized across all disciplines as a mark of excellence
  • an opportunity to join other distinguished scholars (see the list of famous Phi Beta Kappas)

On a more pragmatic level, lifetime membership in Phi Beta Kappa does not require anything from you beyond the one-time initiation fees. Unlike other honor societies, there are no ongoing obligations of service or dues. (After election to Phi Beta Kappa, you may choose to participate in a local association, but participation is not required.) As part of your membership, you will receive a lifetime subscription to The Key Reporter, the quarterly Phi Beta Kappa newsletter.

Read what other people say about Phi Beta Kappa. . .

  • "If Phi Beta Kappa asks you, don't pass up the chance." by Linda Seebach, Rocky Mountain News, May 7, 2000.
  • Phi Beta Kappa Speech A recent initiate, Matthew C. Steenberg, discussed his thoughts about Phi Beta Kappa membership in 2001 at St. Olaf's College in Minnesota.

Talk to us!

Every year the chapter receives emails and phone calls from students months after initiation who regret not joining Phi Beta Kappa when first asked. With very few exceptions, it is too late for them to join. Don't let this happen to you!
