Methods for Sustaining Development

Description:
Community development efforts often start with lots of enthusiasm and high hopes only to find that, over time, many obstacles prevent the achievement of much progress. A key part of any community development effort must therefore be planning for sustainability. While not every obstacle can be anticipated, there are some proven methods that can be used to achieve sustainable development capable of making the adjustments needed to continue moving forward toward a long-term vision. Some of the methods covered in this course include:
- Establishing ownership
- Developing economic self-sufficiency
- Selecting appropriate resources
- Providing access to resources
- Continuous improvement
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Identify obstacles that can derail development efforts
- Develop a plan to monitor sustainability and improve the development process
- Understand the role of a Service Center in sustainable development
- Design a Service Center for a specific development environment
