This Community Mobilization Intensive Workshop was developed to provide practical tools for development professionals and community organizers to engage communities in self-empowered participatory development. This course will help develop strategies for understanding power dynamics in community development, increase trust and communication, and enhance participation in development programs.

Location: Colorado State University campus

Topics covered:

Day 1: The Role of Empowerment in Sustainable Development
The course will begin with a discussion on community mobilization, a brief history and theory of development practice, and an activity to analyze power dynamics.

Day 2: Power Dynamics, NGOs, and Development
This day will cover the role of humanization in sustainable development and begin with practical tools to facilitate discussions, learning to listen and ask questions.

Day 3: Empowerment in Action
Participants will learn facilitation techniques, PRA/ PLA tools, and strategic planning activities to engage communities in the development process through hands-on activities.

Day 4: Participatory Tools for Action/Reflection
Action plan formation and participatory monitoring and evaluation will close out the workshop activities.
