(1) organizes and presides over monthly meetings of the GSC, (2) acts as an intermediary between the GSC and the Graduate School and university Administration, and (3) acts as the source of information for any graduate student curious about GSC.
Time commitments per month includes about 3 hours for GSC meetings, 3 hours for interactions with Graduate School (includes a monthly luncheon with the Dean), and 20 hours coordinating activities, information exchange, and miscellaneous presidential duties; for a monthly total of approximately 26 hours.

Coordinates with campus media sources and departments to provide information about GSC
activities and events.
You must attend the senate meetings on Wednesday night. Additionally you must sit on one internal and one external committee, and you should keep three office hours a week. You get the opportunity to write and sponsor resolutions and bills. It's a very fun and exciting and rewarding experience and a great chance to meet new people and affect change campus wide.
Time commitments per month include 4 hours for GSC meetings, and per week include 3-5 hours for senate meetings, 2 hours for related committee meetings and 3 hours for office hours, for a monthly total of approximately 44 hours.
There can be as many as two associates for each senator. They are required to sit on one committee, have one office hour a week, and attend at least half of the senate meetings every Wednesday night. You can write, sponsor, and co-sponsor legislation. You may also vote for any grad school senator if they are not present. It's a great way to get involved, yet keep a low time commitment.

NAGPS acts to get state and national information regarding graduate student issues to each member organization, as well as helping individual members gather information from other organizations. The NAGPS representative screens the email messages received from NAGPS, checks the NAGPS WWW page, and accumulates information about local issues affecting graduate students.
Time commitments per month include 4 hours for GSC meetings, and 4-6 hours spent during your own time perusing email statements and the Web, for a monthly total of approximately 8-10 hours.
This committee is focused on updating and maintain the University's Strategic Plan and attempting to guide University policy to follow this plan. Issues discussed this past year were the completion of the Change and Reform document and the revamping of the entire Strategic Planning process. Also, the SPC was included in the budget hearing process for the first time this spring. Because of the nature of the committee, it has been voted that this committee spot be filled by an officer of the GSC. Meeting times are sporadic and meetings are time consuming, but are definitely worthwhile.
Time commitments per semester (beyond those for being an officer) include approximately 40 hours for meetings and 30 hours for reading all the material generated by this committee.
This committee discusses all aspects of the University that affect Parking Services, including maintenance and construction of parking lots, enforcement, alternative strategies, etceteras.
Time commitments per month include about 4 hours for GSC meetings, and 2 hours for the Parking committee meeting, for a monthly total of approximately 6 hours.
This committee discusses all aspects of the University and community that affect mass transit needs on campus. There is a representative from Transfort at each meeting, so there is a close tie to our mass transit provider. This past semester, this committee has discussed ways of encouraging staff and faculty use of the Transfort system, a review of new services provided by Transfort (including bike racks on the buses and some new routes), and the potential for bringing bus service back to the Foothills Campus.
Time commitments per month include about 4 for GSC meetings, and 2 hours for Mass
Transit committee meetings, for a monthly total of approximately 6 hours.
The Cermak Award is for excellence in graduate student advising. The nomination packages included information on interpersonal relationships developed, advice for career development, thesis guidance and research areas addressed. There are many high quality advisors who are concerned with the students well being as well as accomplishing quality research. This year's representative really enjoyed sitting on this committee because of the exposure to the quality and caliber of advisors at CSU.
Time commitments consists of approximately 4-6 hours during a one week period in March (usually). Nominations are picked up at the beginning of the week and rated individually by each committee member. The committee meets at the end of the week to make the final decision.
Everyone on the committee received a copy of all the nominations (each being 8-15 pages) and is asked to review and rank them before the meeting. The meeting itself lasts 1-1.5 hours, during which a decision is made.
Time commitments is approximately 15 hours over a 1-2 week period, with a 1-1.5 hour meeting at the end.
