These structures provide a solution to the situation where a channel bottom is eroding (head-cutting) and the channel is widening and the effect is migrating upstream. These structures are used at a road crossing to avoid reconstruction of a bridge and construction of a grade control structure. They are less costly than either a bridge or a control structure.
