Gilette Entomology Club Wins Novelty Division in Homecoming Parade!
For the first time in over a decade the Gillette Entomology Club reentered the Homecoming Parade – and with a splash - winning the Novelty Division.
The basic design involved a large ram-horned caterpillar, created almost entirely out of salvaged materials, chomping on the decorated float vehicle. (The caterpillar underwent a remarkable reverse metamorphosis in its development, emerging as a caterpillar from its original butterfly design.) The highly disciplined and well choreographed Precision Sweep net Drill team followed the float. A dog in a bee costume, cute kids in bug costumes and others helped to give the entry a presence that drew > alot< of smiles along the route.
A big thanks to all who helped create the float and participated in the parade. Club officers Kyle Conrad and Cheryl Bowker took the lead on this and were able to bring it to its successful completion. Helping with the float and participating in the parade were many others, including Matt Hudson, Nick Emmendorfer, Chris Mayack, Michael Crespin, Jim Zdenuk (with his corgi), Stephanie Szostek, Peter Forrence, Janet Hardin, Maggie Hirko, Corinna Peters, Rachael Fithian, the Camper clan, the Hufbauer clan- and several from the Insects, Science and Society class.
Congratulations all! A great job!
