JTC Student and Faculty Award Winners Announced
CSU faculty and students involved in journalism and research
related endeavors continue to shine in national competitions,
earning awards and honors along the way.

JTC faculty member Kirk Hallahan, seen in the
center, in the picture to the right, is the 2007 winner of the
Pathfinder Award from The Institute of Public Relations. The
award was presented at the organization’s annual lecture and
fundraising dinner at the Yale Club in New York City. Hallahan
received a $2,000 cash prize for the award, which recognizes
research and scholarly writings related to the applications of new
technology in public relations.
Hallahan’s award came at about the same time that Rocky Mountain
Collegian visual editor Aaron Montoya, an art major, earned a
national first place award for best news photo from the Associated
Collegiate Press. Montoya’s winning photo captured the embrace
of two local residents celebrating the life of CSU psychology major
Adrienne Morgan, who was killed in a drunk driving accident.
Montoya’s award-winning photo is seen here.
A complete story on Montoya’s award can be found:
It’s not uncommon for Rocky Mountain Collegian staff members like
Montoya, as well as other members of the Student Media staff, to
earn awards for their work. Former Collegian editor
Brandon Lowrey is another recent winner. Lowrey earned a
certificate of merit for feature writing this fall from the William
Randolph Hearst Foundation. Lowrey’s entry competed against 128
students from 72 journalism programs in arguably the most
prestigious and competitive reporting competition for college
journalists.
Overall, during the past decade, JTC students and others from the
university who work at the Rocky Mountain Collegian, Campus
Television, KCSU-FM and College Avenue magazine have earned
hundreds of regional and national awards for reporting, editing,
writing, photography, on-air talent and production. |
