What makes our program special
Our students enroll for internships only after they have completed basic skills courses in our department. In many cases, students also have experience at the student newspaper, student television station, or working with a client in a practicum in public relations. Interns are monitored by the program director.
How you can sponsor a student intern
Begin by identifying the specific jobs an intern can do for you.
Finally, evaluate the student's progress during the course of the internship. Evaluations will be sent to you electronically twice during the semester from the Internship director.
Students provide their skills
The Department of Journalism and Technical Communication at Colorado State University is committed to providing students with the skills they need to succeed in their careers as journalist.
Whether they choose the news-editorial, electronic reporting, public relations or technical-specialized concentration, students graduate from Colorado State prepared for the challenges they face in their professions. Internships allow students to apply the skills they learn in the classroom to actual experience in their fields.
Our internship program can only succeed if the University and businesses work together. We have many candidates with solid skills who can make contributions to your organization. We hope you will participate in this joint education venture.
Tell us what you need
We believe that an internship should be an employer-employee relationship.
Your job description lets us know what kind of intern you need. Once you send us a job description, we will match it to our students' qualifications. Student applicants will provide you with resumes and work samples. You then select the most qualified intern.
Our department keeps in close contact with the interns and their employers.
You provide the opportunity
A college education is expensive and difficult to obtain. Students often pay their own expenses. While students do receive academic credit for their internships, we also encourage you to pay interns when possible. Perhaps you can pay the student's tuition, cover expenses or award a scholarship at the end of the internship.
If you cannot provide compensation, but feel that you and student interns can benefit from your working with our organization, please contact us anyway. The most valuable part of an internship is the experience students gain.
Hiring a student intern from Colorado State is your chance to make a contribution to your profession. Help a future member of your profession gain experience and confidence in your field.
