Research Interests
Dr. Haley serves as project leader of the wheat breeding and genetics program. His research focuses on the genetic improvement of hard red and hard white winter wheat for yield, end-use quality, and biotic and abiotic stresses prevalent in Colorado and the central and southern Great Plains. Current research emphasis in the program includes:
- Russian wheat aphid resistance
- Whole-grain near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRs) for wheat quality assessment
- Molecular marker assisted selection

Teaching Responsibilities
Dr. Haley is responsible for one undergraduate course and two graduate courses. These include:

SC/H 460 (Plant Breeding): a three-credit, alternate-year introductory course in agronomic and horticultural crop
breeding.

SC 720 (Advanced Plant Breeding): a four-credit, alternate year course for graduate students in the plant breeding
program.

SC780 (Plant Breeding Program Management): a one-credit, alternate year course dealing with relational database design and applications for plant breeding program management.

Extension & Outreach
Dr. Haley has no formal extension & outreach appointment. Dr. Haley spends considerable time and effort at summer field plot tours and other venues for interaction with wheat grower and seed industry groups in Colorado.
Dr. Haley also maintains the Colorado Wheat Variety Database for distribution of wheat variety and wheat variety trial information over the internet (http://wheat.colostate.edu/vpt.html). |
