Each year the Department of Sociology at Colorado State University selects recipients for a number of scholarships and other awards. These awards are designed to recognize outstanding undergraduates for their important contributions within and beyond the field of Sociology. Award recipients are chosen based on their academic achievements, university and community involvement, and the quality of their written application. The Department of Sociology is pleased to honor the significant accomplishments of our undergraduate majors.
2007 Award Recipients
Meredith Dickinson, Sarah Hofstetter, Alex Mitchell,
and Tania Valdez
Meredith Dickinson is the winner of the Sociology Department’s Dr. Ronny E. Turner Memorial Scholarship. Meredith is pursuing degrees in Sociology and International Studies with a focus on Latin America. She plans to incorporate her academic experience into her global citizenry by applying her acquired skills to issues of social injustice facing the Global South.
Sarah Hofstetter is the winner of the Sociology Department’s Hoover Memorial Scholarship. Sarah will complete her degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice in December 2007. After graduation, she plans to apply for graduate school and hopes to work as a probation officer.
Alex Mitchell is the Sociology Department’s Merit Scholar for the College of Liberal Arts. Alex completed his undergraduate degree in Sociology with a concentration in Pre-Medicine in May 2007. Alex will serve as a Congressional Intern in Washington, D.C. for Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy of Rhode Island beginning in the fall of 2007.
Tania Valdez is the recipient of the Sociology Department’s Tim Rouse Fund Scholarship. Tania is a senior undergraduate major in Sociology. She is minoring in Spanish and pursuing certificates in Chicana/o Studies and Women’s Studies. Tania graduates in December 2007, and will be applying for graduate and law school programs.
