Graduate Funding Opportunity

For the 2008/2009 school year, the Center for Fair & Alternative Trade Studies is pleased to offer a Research Assistantship to one exceptional graduate student interested in pursuing this line of study. Applicants must be accepted into the Sociology Department at CSU, and file a separate application with CFATS. The assistant will commit to working 20 hours per week with CFATS faculty. In return s/he will receive tuition and $11,200 to $15,000 (depending on academic experience) for a nine-month contract.

The research assistantship is a unique opportunity to study and work with several leading scholars of the field while gaining an MA or PhD in Sociology. Students and Faculty associated with the Center are currently working on a range of projects focusing on 1) Broadening and Deepening the Impacts of Fair Trade, 2) Conscious Consumerism, 3) Globalization and Northern Markets: Fair Trade in the United States, 4) Assessing the Current Benefits and Future Potential for Poverty Alleviation in Fair Trade Coffee Networks, and 5) Pesticides and Private Certification in the Global Food Sector. In addition, the CSU Sociology Department invites qualified applications for teaching assistantships for the MA and PhD degree programs which focus broadly on social change in domestic and international contexts. The Sociology Department offers coursework and research opportunities in the following subfields:  1) Agriculture and Food, 2) Environment and Natural Resources, and 3) Social Justice and Governance (http://www.colostate.edu/Depts/Sociology/graduate/apply.html ). All Sociology graduate students are eligible for funded positions and new applications received by the January 15, 2008 deadline will be automatically considered. Graduate Teaching Assistants work 20 hours per week with faculty in undergraduate courses. In return they receive tuition and $11,200 to $15,000 (depending on academic experience) for a nine-month contract.
