Fall 2007 Registration Information

CSU Home Page
Registration Procedures
By the act of registration (i.e., requests for and assignment to one or more classes), you are financially liable to the University for assessed tuition, fees and charges. Unless you officially withdraw from the University (see WITHDRAWAL) during the authorized withdrawal periods, you are obligated to pay the full amount of the assessment and are subject to grades regardless of whether you attend class.

The University will mail a billing statement to a designated billing address or current address if no billing address is on file. If full payment of University charges is not made when due, you are subject to a late payment charge. Direct billing questions to Student Financial Services in the Administration Annex, (970) 491-6321.

Registration, including schedule changes (adds and drops), is accomplished on-line by selecting the Registration link in RAMweb. In order to fully benefit from the system, it is essential that you follow the required procedures and conform to the established deadlines. Preparation prior to registration minimizes mistakes and time on the system, thereby reducing the demand during peak registration periods.

After completion of the registration process, double check your class schedule on RAMweb to be sure that you are registered for the appropriate courses.

eID
Your eidentity (eID) is to be used for the duration of your enrollment at Colorado State. Your eID (eName and ePassword) is required for access to the registration/grades system and RAMweb. It provides security to your registration record, so do not share it with others. If you believe it has been compromised, you may change your ePassword at www.colostate.edu and click on Students/RAMweb. Then click on Login Help/Forgotten ePassword and follow the directions.

PREPARATION FOR REGISTRATION
Contact your adviser for assistance in selecting your courses. If you do not know who your adviser is, contact the department of your major for assistance. Students with the following majors should contact the Center for Advising and Student Achievement: University Open Option, Open Option Seeking Art, Open Option Seeking Engineering, Open Option Seeking Physics, Open Option Seeking Business, Open Option Seeking Technical Journalism, Applied Human Sciences Open Option, and GUEST. College Open Option students should contact their college dean’s office. Familiarize yourself with the format for the listing of courses.

REGISTRATION READY TASKS
Registration Ready is a group of questions and tasks that you need to complete before your registration appointment time. The link will appear on your RAMweb homepage above the registration link. Once these items are completed, your Registration Ready hold will be removed and you will be able to register at your appointed time.

ADVISING SESSION
During your department advising session, you will confirm your classes for the next term and discuss registration information. This will include your advising code if applicable, HOLDS on your registration, registration and schedule change deadlines, etc. Talk with your adviser before you attempt to register. If you have an advising code, you will need it to complete the Registration Ready process.

Return to the top of the page

ADVISING CODE
Some students are required to seek advising before they register. An advising code must be entered in Registration Ready before registration each term. This code changes each term and is available from their adviser/department. This code is in addition to the eID (eName and ePassword) required for registration.

HOLDS
Academic and administrative offices can place HOLDS on your registration which prevent registering or changing your registration schedule. HOLDS are placed for a variety of reasons (academic, financial, etc.). Failure to meet a payment deadline will result in a financial HOLD, which will prevent adds for a registered student. Each HOLD and the office phone number (including office contacts) are listed by the registration system. You must clear each HOLD with the office involved. Clear your HOLDS before you attempt to register.

If a HOLD is placed on your registration after you have registered, your registration will not be automatically canceled. However, you will not have registration access to adjust your schedule or to register for subsequent terms until the HOLDS are cleared. HOLDS do not extend other deadlines. HOLDS must be cleared prior to deadlines or adds and drops will not be authorized. HOLDS also prevent dropping or withdrawing from a class.

REGISTRATION PRIORITY
Registration priority is determined by class level with professional (DVM) and graduates beginning April 2, 2007 followed by seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen in that order. Within each class, students with the greatest number of cumulative credits passed will have the highest priority. Obviously, a greater selection of courses will be available if you register early: FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. Log into RAMweb so you can see when your access begins. The class priority schedule ends approximately April 29, 2007. Newly admitted students may begin registration on April 30, 2007.

REGISTRATION SYSTEM OPERATING HOURS
The registration system through RAMweb for Fall 2007 operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
Before accessing the registration system:

> Access the online Fall 2007 University Class Schedule;
> Query your options for Fall 2007 courses and sections;

> Identify the course reference numbers of the courses for which you will be registering;
> Have alternative courses and sections identified.

If you lack this necessary information while you are registering, you can exit the system and re-enter when you are ready.

Some departments place class restrictions, major restrictions or prerequisites on courses or sections of courses. These restrictions are listed with each course. Some restrictions may be temporary until students of designated class or major have had an opportunity to register for the course or section involved. Exceptions to these restrictions may be made only by the academic department offering the course.

When you are denied enrollment in a course, the reason is given. Reasons could include: class is filled, ineligible because of class or major restriction, time conflict with another course, lacking prerequisites, etc.

You may also re-enter the system to add another course, drop a course for which you registered earlier, or change credits in a variable credit course for which you are registered. You are urged to do this prior to mid-August when use of the registration system increases as the first day of class approaches.

After completion of the registration process, double check your class schedule on RAMweb to be sure that you are registered for the appropriate courses.

CANCELING YOUR REGISTRATION
You may cancel your registration at any time through August 19, 2007, the day before classes begin, by using the registration system to drop all courses for which you are registered. All tuition, fees and charges for Fall Semester 2007 will be canceled. All financial aid awarded prior to the beginning of classes will be canceled if you fail to enroll. Through the use of your eID to access the system, you are the only person who can cause this cancellation. On, or after, August 20, see SCHEDULE CHANGES.

VARIABLE CREDITS
Registration for courses with variable credit will default to one credit. This will initiate a registration system request for the number of credits for which the student wishes to register. Enter the desired number of credits.

ALL-UNIVERSITY COMPOSITION AND MATHEMATICS REQUIREMENTS
All undergraduate students pursuing degrees at Colorado State must complete the all-University composition (three credits) and mathematics (three credits) requirements within the first 60 semester credits passed, including any transferred to the University. Students (except first semester transfer and returning students) who have earned 60 or more Colorado State and transfer semester credits and who have not met this requirement must enroll in a course that will fulfill this requirement in order to have a hold lifted from his/her registration. If a student drops or withdraws from the course or does not earn a passing grade, the grade of record will become an "F". This grade of "F" will be included in the calculation of both the semester GPA and the cumulative GPA as a consequence for not completing the 60 credit completion requirement as defined by this policy. A transfer or returning student will be allowed the initial term of enrollment before this restriction is imposed.

REPEAT/DELETE
It is the student’s responsibility to request the repeat/delete option before the course withdrawal period ends.

TUITION AND FEES
A statement reflecting assessed tuition and fees will be mailed to you as a result of your registration. Payment deadlines will be included and late payment penalties assessed for late payment. Registrations will not be canceled as a result of late or nonpayment.

SUPPLEMENTAL TUITION CHARGES
Supplemental Tuition is assessed on a per credit hour basis for undergraduate students enrolled in: upper division courses, and/or courses in certain high cost and/or high demand programs.

Assessment is based on the course prefix or course level. It is NOT based on a student's major. Supplemental Tuition applies to Undergraduate Students classified as Colorado Residents, Non-residents or as Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) students. Supplemental Tuition does NOT apply to Graduate Students enrolled in these courses.

FEE ADJUSTMENTS FOR SCHEDULE CHANGES
An adjustment of tuition and fees is allowed during the schedule change period, August 20 - September 5. After this deadline, there is no adjustment in tuition and fees should you drop a course. Courses taught in less than sixteen weeks have proportionately shorter add/drop periods.

STUDENT OPTION PASS/FAIL AND AUDIT GRADING
Selection of pass/fail grading for a student option pass/fail graded course, or selection of audit grading, cannot be accomplished on-line. Register for the course first, complete the Student Option Pass/Fail and Audit Grading Form, obtain the approval signatures, and submit it to the Registrar's Office no later than September 5.

The following regulations apply to pass/fail student option courses for the undergraduate student:
> First semester freshmen are not eligible for this option.
> First semester transfer students are not eligible for this option.
> Students with less than a 2.0 cumulative grade point average are not eligible for this option.
> Students may use this option for only one course per semester.
> This option should not be used in a course to fulfill a general or specific requirement within a student's major.
> The above regulations do not apply to HES 100A-P, HES 101B-J, HES 102A-G, HES 106, AND HES 123.

Additional policies for this grading option are indicated on the form.

CREDIT OVERLOADS
Maximum credit loads are as follows:

Undergraduate..............................................
18
Graduate......................................................
15
Professional (DVM).......................................
26

Credit overloads are initiated by the adviser who sends an e-mail to the Registrar's Office before the beginning of registration to: recordsoffice@colostate.edu.

COURSE OVERRIDES
A registration override may be obtained from the instructor of the course or his/her designee in the department. An override may be obtained once the class schedule is available on the Web. It is not necessary for the student to wait for the first day of class. The option to override students into a course is totally at the instructor's discretion. Additionally, some departments may have policies which the instructor must follow. Overrides give a student permission to register for a course regardless of the course restrictions.

Overrides may be given for one or more of the following reasons:
(1) Enrollment limit (class is full),
(2) Prerequisite (student has not met the prerequisite),
(3) Time conflict (time of the class conflicts with another class for which the student is already registered),
(4) Major restriction (student is not in the required major),
(5) Class/level restriction (course is restricted to class or level which the student has not yet attained), or
(6) Add deadline (the time has passed during which the student can register on RAMweb).

WITHDRAWAL FROM UNIVERSITY
University withdrawal (to drop all courses and leave the University) is different from dropping one or more courses. If the first day of the semester has not yet begun, students may cancel their course schedule through RAMweb without any assessment of tuition or fees. Once classes have started August 20, 2007, students who are planning to drop all courses and leave the University for any reason during the term must contact the Center for Advising and Student Achievement (CASA), http://www.casa.colostate.edu/, 202 Aylesworth NE, 970-491-7095 prior to their departure to complete the withdrawal process. Unless this procedure is followed, students will receive failing grades in all courses. If students do not attend and do not cancel their courses before the semester begins, they are financially responsible for 25% of assessed tuition and fees.

Adjustments of Tuition and Fees Will Be Made According to the Following Schedule (1):

FOR FALL 2007
Through Wednesday, September 5, 2007, 4:45 pm
25% assessment
Through Friday, September 28, 2007, 4:45 pm 75% assessment
Through Friday, December 7, 2007, 4:45 pm 100% assessment

(1) If you are a financial aid recipient, there are specific federal, state, and University withdrawal policies regarding tuition and fees, University housing charges, and return of funds to the financial aid programs resulting from a withdrawal. Information regarding the regulations for calculating earned aid and the order of programs to which we return funds is available at the time of withdrawal or upon request from Student Financial Services.

It is important to maintain a current mailing address with the University. Registration information, bills, and other important information are sent to this address (an optional billing address is available to send bills to another address). To change your mailing address, access RAMweb. The University also requires that each enrolled student provide an email address. Students may use either the email service of their choice or the free email service the University provides through Holly/Lamar/Simla and some colleges. If you have any questions, please contact the Registrar's Office in Room 100, Administration Annex or call (970) 491-4860.

STUDENTS’ EDUCATIONAL RECORDS
Students have certain rights concerning their “education records” under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, as amended, 20 U.S. 1232g et.seq. (FERPA).

These include:
1. The right to inspect and review the student's educational records within 45 days of the day the University receives a request for access.

Students should submit to the Registrar's Office, or in the case of graduate studies, to the Graduate School, written requests that identify the record(s) they wish to inspect. The University official will make arrangements for access and notify the student of the time and place where the records may be inspected. If the records are not maintained by the University official to whom the request was submitted, that official shall advise the student of the correct official to whom the request should be addressed.

All enrolled and former students may have access to their educational records maintained within the University. Those individuals and agencies having access to a student's record include “school officials,” defined below, with legitimate educational interests; parents claiming a student as a dependent on their federal income tax; scholarship and other financial aid organizations supporting the student; organizations conducting studies for, or on behalf of, educational agencies or institutions for the purpose of developing, validating, or administering predictive tests, student aid programs, or to improve instruction; organizations carrying out accrediting functions of programs offered by the University; appropriate person(s) in an emergency; and any party designated by judicial order or subpoena, provided that, except for subpoenas and orders issued for law enforcement purposes, the University first notifies the student of the order or subpoena. Any other individual or organization must have a student's written consent to view or have access to the educational record.

A student may receive one copy of each item of information contained in the educational record at a cost of $.25 per page.

2. The right to request the amendment of the student’s educational records that the student believes are inaccurate or misleading.

Students may ask the University to amend a record that they believe is inaccurate or misleading. They should write the University official responsible for the record, clearly identify the part of the record they want changed, and specify why it is inaccurate or misleading.

If the University decides not to amend the record as requested by the student, the University will notify the student of the decision and advise the student of his or her right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment. Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the student when notified of the right to a hearing.

3. The right to consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information contained in the student's educational records, except that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.

An exception exists for public release of “directory information” unless the student has placed a written request that such information be withheld in the Registrar's Office by the end of the second week of classes. Colorado State defines “directory information” as a student's name, current mailing and e-mail address, telephone listing, major field of study, class, dates of attendance, anticipated date/term of graduation and expected award(s), participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, photographic or video images, and honors and degrees awarded.

Another exception allows disclosure of information about the student to school officials with legitimate educational interests. A school official is a person employed by the University in an administrative, supervisory, academic or research, or support staff position (including law enforcement unit personnel in an educational role and health staff); a person or company with whom the University has contracted (such as an attorney, auditor, collection agent, or clearinghouse agency); a person serving on the governing board of the University; or a student serving on an official committee, or in a volunteer capacity, such as a peer mentor or member of a disciplinary or grievance committee, or assisting another school official in performing his or her tasks. Such officials have legitimate education interests when they need to review a student's educational records to fulfill their responsibilities to the University. As an example of a company with whom Colorado State University has contracted, the University works with the National Student Clearinghouse which provides a Current Enrollment Verification Certificate and/or degree verification to students and vendors indicating whether the students are enrolled for part-time or full-time status at CSU.

Furthermore, the University discloses students’ educational records without consent, upon request, to officials of other schools in which a student seeks or intends to enroll.

4. The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the University to comply with the requirements of FERPA. The name and address of the Office that administers FERPA is:

Family Policy Compliance Office
U.S. Department of Education
400 Maryland Ave. SW
Washington, DC 20202-4605

PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE (PRIVATE) INFORMATION
Personally identifiable or private information includes age, date, and place of birth. It also includes grades, personal ID number, Social Security Number, class schedule, residency, and class rank. None of these items may be released without the student's permission.

DIRECTORY (PUBLIC) INFORMATION
Current address and phone, major, class level, dates of attendance, anticipated graduation date and expected award, degrees awarded, and honors awarded are all considered directory (public) information. This information may be released on request unless the student has signed a FERPA Release Form restricting all or some of it.

A student is required to sign this form to withhold public information. It is available at the Registrar's Office, Room 100, Administration Annex. If a student later wants this information released when requested, he/she will need to go to the Registrar's Office, Room 100, Administration Annex, to sign a release.

EVENING EXAMS
Some courses have evening exams. Evening exams must be scheduled on Tuesday or Thursday between 5:00pm and 8:00pm. In most instances, these exams are not held in the same room as your class. Check with your instructor for the room assignment.

CREDIT BY EXAMINATION
Enrolled students may elect to establish credit by examination for many of the courses offered by Colorado State University. The Credit by Examination Program provides the student who received college-level preparation outside the university setting an opportunity to acquire college credit for this work. Qualified students are encouraged to take advantage of this program by contacting the University Testing Service, C81 Clark Building, (970) 491-6498.

PHOTO ID CARDS
Students can obtain their RAMCard (University ID) between 7:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday at the RamCard Office located in the Lory Student Center. You must present a state-issued picture ID (i.e., driver's license or passport) and you must also know your CSU ID number to apply for an ID card. Your photo will be taken and an ID will be issued immediately. There is a $10.00 fee for new University ID cards which will be charged to your student account, and a $15.00 (subject to change) charge for replacement cards. Please call (970) 491-2344 if you have any questions. For more information about the RAMCard and its uses, see http://www.id.colostate.edu.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE COOPERATIVE REGISTRATION AGREEMENTS
Under a cooperative program with Aims Community College (Greeley), full-time Colorado State students may register for one course (maximum of five credits) per term without additional tuition assessment. Contact the Registrar's Office in the Administration Annex for further details.

SENIOR CITIZEN VISITATION PRIVILEGE
Senior citizens (age 62 or older) may visit Colorado State resident instruction classes on a space available basis at no cost. Contact the Registrar's Office in Room 100, Administration Annex for further details.

FINAL EXAMINATION
The final in-class examination period is intended for the end-of-semester examination. No in-class examination constituting more than 10% of the final course grade may be given in undergraduate courses during the week preceding the final examination period of the semester; laboratory, performance and other alternative classes (e.g., courses in the individualized mathematics program) excluded. See Final Exam Schedule.

GRADUATION - BACHELOR’S DEGREES
Every term you will be asked to give your INTENT TO GRADUATE (the term you will complete all requirements) and confirm your Program of Study as part of Registration Ready. When declared a Senior at completion of 90 credits, you will be asked to also provide the name that you want printed on your diploma. By the end of the third week of your graduation semester, you must sign your Graduation Contract in your major department and in other departments if you are also seeking second majors and/or minors. If you plan to participate in the commencement ceremony, sign up in your college dean’s office.

GUIDE (Gateway to University and Individual Degree Evaluation)
GUIDE is the University's undergraduate automated degree audit/advising support system which will be phased out after the Summer Term 2007. It compares a student's completed coursework with AUCC requirements, in order to show the student's status toward completion. Many of the University's major, concentration, minor and interdisciplinary program requirements are tracked in GUIDE as well.

DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System)
DARS is the new undergraduate automated degree audit/advising support system which will begin for Fall Term 2007. Requirements listed on the degree audit include AUCC, majors, minors, and interdisciplinary programs. These degree audits will be viewed and printed from ARIESweb and RAMweb. The audit is interactive and includes graphs and charts that represent the student's progress towards completion of the degree.

UNIVERSITY INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES PROGRAM
An interdisciplinary studies program is a series of courses focused upon a particular problem or area of concern providing a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Although completion of courses in an interdisciplinary studies program does not lead to a degree, credit earned in these courses can be used in meeting the requirements for a degree. An interdisciplinary studies program includes a core of required courses, with some selectivity, and also a wide choice from supporting courses. SERVICE INTEGRATION PROJECT
The Service Integration Project (SIP) began in 1992 to develop and foster the use of service-learning as a valuable teaching strategy at Colorado State University. Service learning incorporates academic concepts into thoughtfully planned service activities, through which students practice skills and develop knowledge while addressing real, unmet community needs. Each year, more than 100 courses engage over 2,000 students with their local community. Service-integrated courses are offered through most colleges on campus. For more information, stop by the Office of Student Leadership & Civic Engagement, Room 195, in the Lory Student Center; you can also call (970) 491-1682 or visit the website at www.slce.colostate.edu/.

COURSE PREREQUISITES
Permission of the instructor for a student to attend a class is implied when the student has met specified prerequisites. All prerequisites may be considered to have been met if a student presents evidence of credit earned in equivalent courses or if knowledge equivalent to the prerequisites indicated is demonstrated.

Academic prerequisites notwithstanding, a department may limit the enrollment in a class; classes may be limited to a specified number of students, to students of particular majors, or to students of particular class levels.

CREDITS
Selection of credits during registration is not required unless the course is offered for variable credit.

SECTION
Sections in a multi-section course may be offered in different weeks within the semester. Care in selection of sections is important to prevent time conflicts of courses for the student.

COURSE REFERENCE NUMBER
This is a unique number assigned every term to each section of every course. This number is the course reference number in the registration system. Courses which have the text "Contact the department for registration." indicate sections which have special requirements. Students must contact departments offering these sections for this course reference number.

COURSE FEES
Certain courses carry a special fee that is assessed at the time a student registers for courses. Since the costs are determined annually, course fees may vary from the stated charge in this section. Consult the class schedule for a given term for the latest course fee charges: Special Course Fee Comprehensive List.

All special course fees will be assessed and collected through standard student accounts receivable procedures. No fees should be paid directly to academic departments or individuals.
