Practicum and Master’s Project

In order to complete the requirements for the Master of Public Health program each student will be required to complete a practicum (minimum of 120 hours) and a Master’s Project that will most likely (but not always) be linked to their practicum.  The practicum assignments are tailored to the interests of the students and are facilitated through the Center for Public Health Practice with assistance from the staff at the student’s home campus and the Practicum Coordinator for the School . The Master’s Project includes a poster presentation, a brief oral presentation and a paper.

Examples of Practicum and Master’s Project activities:

  • Practicum: Student conducts focus groups and a literature review on a specific health education topic

Master’s Project: Student develops an educational brochure on the specific health issue based on what was learned through the focus groups and literature review

  • Practicum: Student designs and administers a survey

Master’s Project: Student analyzes data from survey and writes a summary report

  • Practicum: Student assists in the development of a policy or educational intervention

Master’s Project: Student evaluates the effectiveness of the intervention and summarizes findings
