Decoding of Emotion Through Facial Expression, Prosody, and Verbal Content in Children and Adolescents with Pervasive Developmental Disorders
Authors: Jennifer Lindner and Lee Rosén
I am examining the similarities and differences between children with PDDs and typically developing children in terms of their abilities to decode and understand emotion via different modalities of expression. I am specifically examining the modalities of facial expression, tone of voice, verbal content and then a combination of the above mentioned modalities. I want to find out whether or not a particular modalitiy is easier or more difficult for children with PDDs v. typical children. Also, I am examining whether or not there are differnce among the emotions of anger, sadness, happiness, and neutral expression.

The Driving Anger Expression Inventory: A measure of how people express their anger on the road.  Behaviour Research and Therapy, 40, 717-737.
Authors: Deffenbacher, J. L., Lynch, R. S., Oetting, E. R., & Swaim, R. C. (2002).
Three aggressive (verbal, physical, and vehicular) and one non-aggressive (adaptive/constructive) forms of how people express their anger were identified.  Aggressive forms of anger expression correlated positively with driving-related anger, aggression, and risky behavior; adaptive/constructive expression tended to correlate
negatively with these variables.  Differences in the strengths of correlations and regression analyses supported discriminant and incremental validity and suggested forms of anger expression contributed differentially to understanding driving-related behaviors.

Cognitive-behavioral treatment of high anger drivers.  Behaviour Research and Therapy.
Authors: Deffenbacher, J. L., Filetti, L. B., Lynch, R. S., Dahlen, E. R., & Oetting, E. R.  (in press).
Relaxation and cognitive-relaxation interventions were compared to a no treatment control in the treatment of high anger drivers.  Both interventions lowered indices of driving anger and hostile and aggressive forms of expressing driving anger and increased
adaptive/constructive ways of expressing driving anger.  The cognitive-relaxation intervention also lowered the frequency of risky behavior.  Both interventions lowered trait anger as well.

The Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale: A brief version.
Authors: Suinn and Winston
A 30 item version of the frequently used Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale was designed from factor analyses. Reliability and validity data are provided covering test-retest reliability, as well as correlations between the brief scale and the original scale, and mathematics performance.

The Terrible Twos, Anger and Anxiety: Hazardous to Your Health
Author: Suinn
This review of the literature demonstrates the role of anger and anxiety in reducing the immune system, increasing vulnerability to respiratory/cardiovascular/cancer, increasing mortality, and exacerbating pain reactions. Anxiety (Anger) Management Training (AMT), a brief behavioral intervention for anger and for anxiety is described along with efficacy data.

Authors: Serenity Chambers, B.S., Lydia Buki, Ph.D., & Xali Joy, B.S.
This study looked at websites for the 67 APA-accredited doctoral program in counseling psychology. A website checklist was devised to assess the extent to which websites are being utilized as an
ethnic minority student recruitment tool. To be presented in Division 17 at the upcoming APA convention.
