Opening Address
Our opening address will be given by Dr. Suinn, professor emeritus in the department of psychology at CSU. A past president of the American Psychological Association, Dr. Suinn is well known in the counseling/clinical psychology field for his work in diverse areas such as anxiety management, ethnicity, and sports psychology. Dr. Suinn is a great resource for students who are interested in not only getting into graduate school, but how to thrive and succeed in a graduate program in psychology.
Road Map to Success
This program will be of great use to anyone considering graduate study in psychology! Information will be provided to help you learn how to prepare yourself for the application process for graduate school, including a basic timeline to guide you throughout their undergraduate career.
Choosing a Program
This seminar will be helpful to those of you who are trying to determine what kind of graduate program they are interested in. This program will not only focus on the differences between the different fields of psychology, such as counseling, clinical, and industrial-organizational psychology, but will also provide information about the differences between master’s, PhD, and PsyD programs.
What You Need to Apply: CV/ Resumé /GRE Prep
This program is better suited for students who know what kind of graduate program they are interested in, but would like additional information about how to handle the specific components of their applications. Program leaders will discuss helpful strategies and techniques regarding GRE preparation, and building a CV or Resumé. The seminar leaders will devote one-on-one time for those students who have drafts that they would like to be reviewed.
Personal Statements and Interviews
Personal statements and interviews can be two of the most integral components to your application for graduate school. As a result, program leaders will be devoting a whole session to how to write a personal statement that will draw attention to your application. The seminar leaders will devote one-on-one time for those students who have drafts that they would like to be reviewed. In addition, leaders will also discuss how to conduct and present yourself in interviews so that faculty will be interested in learning more about you as a student and an individual.
Making Yourself Standout
This seminar is a great opportunity for you to learn about how to help yourself move to the top of the application list! Leaders will highlight the various opportunities, extracurricular activities, and research involvements that will help your application convey your interest and qualifications for a graduate study in psychology and explain to admissions staff why you would be a great choice for their program.
