Message from the Department Chair
Welcome to the Department of Psychology at Colorado State University!
Our department is a great place to learn and a great place to work! Here are some fast facts:
- We are the second largest major on campus, with around 1,000 undergraduate majors, and about 100 more graduate students pursuing their masters and doctorate degrees.
- Psychology has produced 36% of the undergraduate degrees awarded by the College of Natural Sciences. This includes 41% of all degrees awarded to female students, and 48% of all degrees awarded to minority students.
- Psychology has produced 14% of all masters degrees and 28% of all doctoral degrees within the College and 29% of the masters to minority students and 40% of the doctorates awarded to minority students within the college.
- At the same time, we have experienced a 59% increase in external funding since 2009; in 2010. The department achieved its highest level of funding in history at $5.2 million
Our faculty excel both in research and in the classroom. We boast many nationally and internationally known scholars in cognitive psychology, applied social psychology, cognitive neuroscience, counseling psychology, and industrial/organizational psychology. As accomplished as we are, this is no think tank. Our faculty take pride in doing research that has meaning, addressing everyday phenomenon and developing and testing interventions that improve the human condition.
At the same time, we take pride in offering high quality instruction in the classroom, online, and in our laboratories. Our faculty are recognized across the university for their teaching excellence, and have won numerous teaching awards.
We are supported by an outstanding office team and an academic advising staff that serves as the gold standard for the rest of the university.
Finally, if you are on campus and have found your way to the department, you have already experienced the beautiful new Behavioral Sciences Building in which we are housed.
I invite you to look around the website and explore what Psychology and our department has to offer to you. It’s truly a great place to be!
