Research and selected papers:
Rolston's research covers a variety of areas but he is especially known as a world's leading scholar in environmental ethics having published
Philosophy Gone Wild (1986),
Environmental Ethics (1988) and
Conserving Natural Value (1994). In addition, however, he has written numerous articles in philosophy of religion and religious studies, including
Science and Religion (1987), and
Religious Inquiry (1985). He gave the 1997-98 Gifford Lectures in Edinburgh University, published under the title
Genes, Genesis, and God (1999). He is also a co-founder and associate editor of Environmental Ethics and founding past-president of the International Society of Environmental Ethics. His other main interest is on the intersection of science and religion. Rolston is also a backpacker, a field naturalist, and a bryologist.
