Colorado State Graduate to Edit Outlook
Connie Young, a Colorado State University graduate, has taken over the editorial services of Outlook magazine following the departure of former editor Tom Johnson. Young earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology with honors from Colorado State and later went on to earn a master's degree in journalism with an emphasis in psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and accreditation (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America.
She currently runs her own writing, editing, and public relations business, Young Communiqu‚, in Denver. 
After graduating from Colorado State, Young worked for about 10 years in the mental health field, both in direct services with emotionally disturbed adolescents and chronically mentally ill adults and later in a program administration position with the Colorado Division of Mental Health. 
Upon completion of her master's degree, she served in public affairs positions in the mental health, environmental, and biological science fields, primarily in state and federal government. Working in the federal sector also afforded her a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to serve on the communications staff for the 1997 Denver Summit of the Eight, the annual summit of leaders of the eight industrialized nations (formerly called the G-7). Young remains involved in the mental health field and volunteers on the Violence Prevention Committee of the Columbine Community Citizens' Task Force.
Last year, she started her own business in which she provides public relations counsel and writes grant proposals, video scripts, information for the news media, and a variety of publications. She said she welcomes the opportunity to return to a university setting.
"Working for the College of Natural Sciences gives me a chance to return to the Colorado State campus and write about subjects ranging from education reform to particle physics," Young said. "It's energizing to learn about a variety of issues and be surrounded by so many intelligent, well-educated people."
