National Center for Vehicle Emissions Control and Safety
presents Training Sessions

1 1/2 Day Dynamic Vehicle Testing Laboratory Experience

Audience: This technical laboratory experience is designed for automotive in-service trainers, I/M administrators, I/M referee staff, National train-the-trainer staff, repair technicians and centralized contractor personnel. (maximum class size of 20)

This structured 1 1/2 day laboratory experience will allow the students to perform dynamic vehicle emissions testing in a controlled laboratory setting. Students will get an appreciation for the complexity of transient and acceleration simulation mode (ASM) testing. This course will explore test-to-test variability amoung different vehicle technology groups. Students will also explore different repair confirmation techniques/paths through the use of repair grade (R/G) dynamometer equipment and in-flight 5 gas analyzers.

Student Prerequisites: Students should have at a minimum:
1. an understanding of the I/M 240 test procedures and testing equipment;
2. limited driveability diagnostic experience; and,
3. a basic understanding of on-board computer system controls.

NCVECS Laboratory Equipment includes:
Federal Test Procedure laboratory
Laboratory Grade I/M 240 equipment
Repair Grade (R/G) 240 dynamometers (ESP and AD)
In-flight 5 gas analyzers (MPSI, Vetronics, and OTC)
On-board computer data retrieval equipment (Snap-On, Snap-Shot-IVS, and MasterTech)
