Education:

Ph.D. University of Michigan, 1976
M.A. University of Oregon, 1969
B.A. Stanford University, 1967

Honors and Recognitions:

Co-winner of best dissertation in Italian history (1976) from American Historical Association.

Current Research Interests:

Labor organizations and working-class consciousness in Italy from unification to WWI, but my last publication in history was in 1976.

My teaching interests are primarily in 20th century Europe, especially the period from 1900-45, and I have a strong interest in military history as well as social and labor history. I am especially fascinated by the interconnections of political, cultural, economic, social and military activities, and I prefer to teach where I can focus on the relationships among various countries and regions rather than focusing just on one country.
