The History Department includes 18 experienced teachers and scholars, who rank as recognized experts in their fields of specialization.
While fully engaged with research and service activities, they also regard teaching as a primary responsibility. Several have won teaching awards. Moreover, the professors have a genuine interest in students. They spend many hours outside the classroom conferring over independent studies, guiding research projects, and carrying out advising functions. In part for this reason, the number of history majors at Colorado State now exceeds 550.
The history department at Colorado State University is a friendly place. Various social functions, lecture series, and other events mark the academic year and bring students, faculty, and staff together. Often times, such things come about through the auspices of Phi Alpha Theta the highly active history honor society. Prospective students should inquire about Phi Alpha Theta.
